The party and its superdelegates have less sway than they used to have. They don't even jump into the process unless no candidate earns 50% of voted delegates. So if Sanders is way ahead, he gets the nomination.

The interesting scenario is if he doesn't get 50%. Then it's a brokered convention and the superdelegates can help decide. I think that's a no-win situation for them. If Bernie is ahead with a plurality and they pick him, it still looks like a weak nomination that didn't really have the party's full support. If they overrule the plurality and vote for another candidate, they risk infuriating the avid Bernie supporters and making it feel like they picked a candidate who didn't have the most support. What a mess.

Officially Hillary got the nomination in 2016. There was a lot of talk and some evidence that Bernie was screwed by the DNC. People will be looking very closely at the nomination process for the Dems this time around.

I say if it’s Bernie, then it’s Bernie. He would have won because American picked him over the rest. Can he beat Trump? Trump thinks he can just say Sanders is a Socialist and the election is in the bag. He prefers Sanders. Latest news is Russia helping Sanders and Trump. Most of the experts say Sanders can’t beat Trump. Most of the experts said Trump couldn’t win the nomination too in 2016.

As if we weren’t polarized enough already. I like Sanders. i think he is an honest guy who really does want to help out those at the bottom. He does have a problem. He is a self proclaimed Socialist Democrat or Democrat Socialist, whatever that means. Just being accused of being a Socialist is usually the kiss of death for any politician in America. Announcing it out loud is pretty gutsy but, kind of foolish and yet, here we are with Sanders leading. That says a lot. I am a little scared of just what Sanders Socialism is myself. The term is so broad. I don’t think he has done a good job of explaining just what his version is. If he wants to win over voters like my mother, he has some splainin to do.

We already have a lot of Socialism in this country from my definition of it. I know Republicans would disagree. Whatever that stuff I call Socialism that they don’t call Socialism like the Military, Coast Guard, Public Schools, Postal Service, Parks, Police, Fire, I want that version of not having Socialism for our health care.

It's hard to say. I think the word "socialism" is so toxic that it could really hurt him. Yes, every Democrat is called a "socialist" by the GOP, but it's another thing entirely for him to just admit it. I realize that a Democratic Socialist is different from a plain Socialist, but I think he should have found a different phrase to describe his politics. Liz Warren has threaded this needle better IMO. She talks about being a capitalist through and through, but that runaway capitalism with no rules and regulation just leads to corporate theft. Then she talks about the policies she supports, which are generally popular, and her plans to enact them, which are generally sound and specific. Much better message.

I've made my peace that it's going to be Bernie vs Trump. Bernie has a large group of young voters that support him. I just hope that's going to be enough to get it done across the country.

To be honest, I still haven't decided! But I will fully support him if he becomes the Democratic candidate. I watched him on 60 Minutes this weekend and was impressed.

I didn’t see that. Maybe I can find it on Youtube or CBS. The liberal media has started to attack Bernie. He’s doing way to good.

All this propaganda by every faction of every group of every party, different countries, all the media and it’s political leanings, political ads, comment sections of every internet anything is getting nauseating. We are in a different time. What to trust? Nothing? We have another 8 months of this getting worse by the day.

The election in Fulton was the first official test of ElectionGuard, a voting software developed by Microsoft as part of its "Defending Democracy" project. ElectionGuard uses a relatively new form of encryption to secure votes and tally them in minutes. It's designed to make it harder for hackers to break into the system, but also to make it immediately obvious if the system is tampered with.

We had another Dem debate last night. I found this latest one to be unpleasant. The candidates were often talking over each other and interrupting, going beyond their time, and just generally getting into a food fight. The moderators didn't do a great job reining them in. And the crowd seemed to consist of donors and die-hard supporters of various candidates who would hoot and holler at various things they would say.

If I had to pick a winner of the debate, it'd be Biden. He came across as a folksy normal person, better than in many of the other debates. He still has a lot of trouble articulating himself; his stuttering problem combined with his age make it pretty rough to watch him up there. My favorite candidate, Warren, seemed a bit too focused on attacking Mike Bloomberg for a second straight debate. Her punches landed last time, but this time, it felt like she went too far and was too negative. Not many other candidates stood out to me. Bernie is the front-runner, and while his debate performance was only fair, he seemed to hold off the enemies' attacks reasonably well overall. I didn't see a lot here to change minds heading into the SC primary and Super Tuesday.
