Anybody see Trump’s CYA, propaganda filled press conference today? That was a new low even for this president.

I could sort of understand why some people voted for him the first time. I didn't agree with them, but I could follow their line of reasoning.

That's completely out the window now. I don't see it at all, and I'm inclined to think that anyone who votes for him has indecent moral standards.

There was also this gem besides his little propaganda video.

I saw the part where the reporter asked which part of the Constitution gave him absolute control over states as to when to reopen. I think under normal circumstances the states and the Feds would coordinate the opening but, we have Trump as President and he nobody listens to anything he says regarding this epidemic. Even Republican governors are bucking Trump on this. They will open when they feel it’s safe, not when Trump says it’s safe.

It isn't only that he is a truly awful person that has no understanding of the Constitution, but he worked hard to surround himself with people that have just as little understanding as he does.

Sure sounds like someone who will readily leave office if he loses in November right? But that's what dictators/authoritarians do and what he's done as CEO for 40 years. It's been going on since he got there. Think of all the qualified, experienced people (regardless of what you thought of them politically) he's pushed out along the way who challenged or tried to rein him in. The GOP will go happily go along because he'll keep them in power.

Remember what Michael Cohen said about a peaceful transition of power should Trump lose the election? What does Biden do if he wins and Trump refuses to leave and incites his base?

That press conference was terrifying. This guy is openly admitting that he sees himself as a dictator. I don't understand why there isn't more panic and outrage about this. He absolutely is going to try to mess with or cancel the November election, or will deny its results, or will refuse to leave office if he loses.

The only way I see him leaving office is through some negotiation where he and his family are granted full pardons/immunity at state and federal levels for life. He has no real convictions or political attachments and only cares about himself and his wealth so there's a slim chance he just walks if he gets everything he wants. But even then, I doubt he leaves because now everything he does is paid for with taxpayer money. No need for more phony companies and shell corps to expense/fund his lifestyle. Plus he's getting all the attention he wants/craves with his press conferences and news coverage, which would go away as a private citizen unless he starts his own network or joins up with OAN or something.

The biggest gift I could receive would be Trump losing the election and we never hear his name mentioned again anywhere.

The amazing thing to me was seeing all these people on Twitter afterward including Mark Cuban saying why did CNN cut away from the propaganda video they played at the briefing as if it was some kind of proof of Trump handling the pandemic perfectly or something. There's a huge number of people out there buying this shit.

I don't think we can necessarily count on the military yanking him out. Technically it's the Secret Service's job to escort the POTUS out when his time is up, but Trump has carefully installed lots of loyalists there, too. I'm worried that when the time comes, the folks who would need to assert their will on this man to get him out, won't.

Maybe I give trump and his supporters too much credit, but I can’t see trump refusing to leave or his supporters being ok with it if he loses an election. Sure there’d be some crazies that would be all for it, but a majority of republicans would not be ok with it.

I would enjoy watching Trump try to stay and them dragging him out kicking and screaming like a child.

https://www.thehour.com/news/article/Co ... 201100.php
The Treasury Department has ordered President Donald Trump's name be printed on stimulus checks the Internal Revenue Service is rushing to send to tens of millions of Americans, a process that could slow their delivery by a few days, senior IRS officials said.
The unprecedented decision, finalized late Monday, means that when recipients open the $1,200 paper checks the IRS is scheduled to begin sending to 70 million Americans in coming days, "President Donald J. Trump" will appear on the left side of the payment.
It will be the first time a president's name appears on an IRS disbursement, whether a routine refund or one of the handful of checks the government has issued to taxpayers in recent decades either to stimulate a down economy or share the dividends of a strong one.

I think that was real nice of Trump for footing the bill and insisting his name go on all the checks.

I am not surprised. Did you notice the Coronavirus postcard that was sent to all Americans said it was from Donald J. Trump?

I am sure you are being serious, but the last 3 years have shown us that the people he surrounds himself with don't care about the law, and we have already proven you can't do anything to a president, legally.

I can easily see Trump challenging the election results, it going to the supreme court, and a 5-4 decision with Trump.
