There are all kinds of electric car makers out there now. The Chevy Volt is the most economical. There are some that will cost you several hundred thousand.

I saw gas prices had gone down to about $3 a gallon not long ago and now they are back to $3.75 ish. I’m paying about 1/6th the price of gas right now. If this pace holds I will have saved around $3,000 in gas in one year of owning the Tesla. I usually own a car for 7 years and trade it in. That would be $21,000 in gas savings over a seven year span.

$50,000, -$7,500 tax break = $42,500, - $21,000 in gas savings over 7 years = $21,500. What gas car are you going to buy new for $21,500 that you would rather drive over an extended range Tesla Model Y for the same basic price. At the end of 7 years trade the Tesla in and trade the other car in and see what you get. Used 7 year old Teslas are going for over $20,000.

Curious what the maintenance cost on them annually. No oil changes will save you but what are the things electric has to maintain? It seems you’d be saving more not having to do oil changes.

Saw the new Rivian recently. So glad there's some e-car competition so I'm not forced to buy from that nutjob.
Yea the new model they have coming out is nice.

Picked up their stock too 😉. It’s doing decently. Tesla stocks been tanking…. Glad I don’t own that crap.

As someone who’s never owned an electric car, do you have to pay to go to the supercharger stations? I know there are lots of free charging stations around, was just curious if the fast charge locations cost money and how much?

The Tesla stations charge. The price does vary. Some have a set price. Some vary depending on the time of day. The most expensive one I charged from was still half the price of gas. I mostly charge from home between 11 pm and 5 am when it’s super cheap.

Unlike gasoline cars, Tesla vehicles require no traditional oil changes, fuel filters, spark plug replacements or emission checks. Even brake pad replacements are rare because regenerative braking returns energy to the battery, significantly reducing wear on the brakes.

I have some concerns about Tiktok but I don't know how I feel about this bill.

Tic Toc is owned by a Chinese company and they are worried the app is spying and manipulating Americans.

Do they have Facebook or X in China? Isn’t that the same thing in reverse? Is China worried those apps are spying of Chinese people? I don’t know myself. I know a lot of people live for tic toc and influencers and musicians for example use it to connect to others as a business.

I think the direction they want is for China to sell an American version not connected to China.

Congress and the President are never unified in anything and yet on this they are unanimous across the board. That says something . The US and China are certainly at odds and China has a long history of stealing secrets etc. I don’t think of China as the enemy. I think of them as a global competitor who wants to win. Do I support the ban? They obviously feel it’s a threat if they all unanimously wanted it banned. I support a new American owner like Elon Musk. Just kidding….

From what I understand, the way the bill is written, this bill isn't just for Tik Tok. It can apply to almost any app or website, and it isn't worried about foreign ownership or foreign manipulation. They could use it to shut down Instagram and Facebook or any way you could communicate with others for example if they wanted to, including this site.

I was reading that the bill was hastily written by one congressional committee and isn't super well written. And I saw that some house and senate members who are on intel committees are against the bill. It seems like it may not be the right way to go about curtailing security concerns about Tiktok.

Why are they all of a sudden so worried about TikTok now, but aren't quite as concerned about the border, foreign investors(mostly China) buying up farmland next to military bases, or foreign investors buying up the American beef industry and putting them out of business to have us import our beef?

But TikTok is such a national security risk that it has to be hastily written and forced out? This makes me quite skeptical, because they never want to give us more freedoms when it's bipartisan like this. It's always about taking rights and freedoms away.

Well, at least since they "pulled out" they didn't get Texas pregnant. Should have used a condom though.
