If I remember it right, there was no consensus #1 pick in that draft and Bennett was a surprise pick at the top of that draft.
I still remember Bill Simmons' "Woah!" as the pick was announced.
Go Suns!

The longer this goes...

What do you guys think about trading back with Atl and getting extra picks this year and in the future?

Take JJJ and then trade back up with Atl and Phx picks for possibly something in the 4-8 range to take Porter, then you would have offensive versatility at the 3-4 with a guy like Porter and defensive versatility at 4-5 with JJJ. The only thing you would need would be someone to feed them all.

I'd rather take Bamba in that scenario, but I'd be interested in adding 2 top 5ish talents over just Ayton.

I'm not quite as high on Bamba as you are. Like in your scenario, it's JJJ and Bamba? Or Porter and Bamba? It's always, Bamba, Bamba, Bamba...

It's a tough call. I'm higher on: Ayton, Doncic, Bamba,Bagley. Lower on: JJJ, Porter. Back and forth on Trae.

I just don't know if you can make the moves to get 2 top 7 guys. I also have no interest in moving out of the high end of this draft for a draft next year. Just pushing back the timeline IMO.

If McDo has two deals where he can get 2 out of the top 5 or 6 then I'd think hard about it but Warren, plus other picks don't get you those 2 deals. Can't trade Booker or Josh either so what's left?

Yeah, it doesn't seem that Warren, despite being a pretty efficient low usage 20 ppg scorer, has low value around the league for whatever reason.

What are you basing this assumption on? Solid contract, efficient, young, he has value IMO.

My impression from the press conferences is that McD was highest on Ayton and JJJ. Of course, Doncic wasn't there so I don't know where he would rate with those two. I don't see him trading out of our first ever #1 pick but if he did it would only be if he were guaranteed to get Doncic or JJJ as well as a couple unprotected 1st round picks from bad teams (Sac/Atl).
Synchronicity and all that jazz, man.

True, but Sac doesn't even have their pick next year, so it would have to be for a 2021 pick. Atl would be where you could go to. Sac is a possibility to move up to, but you would have to have a pick in a shorter drop to go there.

Just listening to podcasts that include people around the league and are asked about Warren. They don't think the contract is all that great, because they see him as a volume scorer who does nothing else. Doesn't rebound that well, doesn't pass, can't hit the 3, and not regarded as a good defender either. He is viewed as a net even or even a net negative in value. Personally, I don't see that. He's made strides as a rebounder and defender and he isn't a ball stopper, doesn't need a high usage to get points. I do hope that he moves his range back though, but I'm not sure he will do it.

Ayton is the consensus #1 pick according to azcentral, CBS Sports, SI.com, Bleacher Report, yardbarker.com, and nbadraft.net:

Here's a Greg Moore article that asks, "What if Doncic is the guy?"

I would be comfortable moving to 5 where either JJJ or Bamba should be available.

Even to 7-9 where we could draft WCJ.
