Tyson Chandler is perfect for this mentoring role. And to think people wanted to buy him out during the summer.

I also do not want to see Chandler traded or bought out, unless it's going to be for a piece that helps the Suns win now and win in the future. I think in a limited role on a team doing their best to win every night, he is going to be a good player for the Suns and a help to Deandre. These guys need his voice and it helps Trevor and Ryan, as it backs up what they say as vets. Ideally, I would like to see one more talented vet in the pg role on this team for reinforcement and help.

We've got a game on Monday! What's everyone's guess for the starting lineup? I'll go Shaq, Jackson, Ariza, Anderson, Ayton. Wouldn't be surprised if Bridges gets the nod in place of Booker either.

The "mentoring" vets do is very overrated. All the basketball related stuff is taught by the coaches. I guess watching a player play defense could help Ayton but do we really want Ayton emulating Chandlers defense?
Off the court life is where I think mentoring could be useful but you don't need Chandler for that. Just a Vet that can teach him the ropes.
All that said I don't mind that Chandler is still with the team. He will be fine coming off the bench. Although I would rather have Len at 5 mill for 1 year than Chandler at 13 and a half.

I don't agree with you but I have to qualify that. Veterans that actually play and don't just sit on the bench are quite valuable mentors. Just to see how they put the work in and actually show the young guys how to play.

Chandler also provides a somewhat competent post defender for Ayton to work against in practice. That may be his most important contribution.

Ugh Shaq and Jackson as a backcourt is just awful shooting. I would probably predict that same lineup though.

Maybe you could run an inside-out offense with the front court guys providing space for the backcourt to operate. Though that would seem a waste of Ayton’s talents.

According to Shaq, we'll be surprised how much his shot improved this summer...
