Suns Stories

Suns fall to #16 in the ESPN power rankings - https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/282 ... tch-champs
The Suns have lost six of their past seven games, and issues in the paint have something to do with it. Over the past 10 games, the Suns rank 29th in the NBA in paint points allowed per game, according to NBA.com/stats. The Suns recently went 1-4 without center Aron Baynes due to a hip injury. And keep in mind that center Deandre Ayton, the No. 1 pick in the 2019 draft, still is serving a 25-game suspension for taking a banned diuretic. -- Spears

Not having any Centers will have an effect on rebounding.

Tyler Johnson for Julius Randle. Who says no?

James Jones? He seems to be looking for particular types of players and I'm not sure Randle fits that. I personally like the idea.

A competent GM wouldn't make that deal (from the Knicks side) but I'm uncertain about the amount of common sense in Knickerbockers organization.

I am completely certain that the amount of common sense is pretty low.

I said it in the offseason and it killed me to say it then...Marcus Morris would probably be a great fit here and the kind of PF we need. Randle is an ISO/attack PF with no defense and wouldn't fit the "program" that Monty and Jones seem to be creating here. NY is bringing out the worst in him.

Morris can be the faceup 4 similar to Dario with some more athleticism and defense who can help a playoff/bubble team. I thought Portland might have eyes for him and still might but Melo might have taken that role ironically. It'd take more than Tyler tho and he'd be a FA at the end of the year so any pick we'd give shouldn't be a good one. And Morris went to NY to be closer to his family in Philly. There's a chance he might not even want to be traded, especially back out west.

He's trashed the organization several times since leaving. Zero chance he comes back. I think his skill set would be useful though.

I don't think he's what we're missing at the 4. We're missing athleticism and interior D at the 4.

I'd go for Portis instead. I get Randle is the better rebounder and playmaker/scorer, but is not a 3pt threat, and looking at his stats, his REB% is at a career lowest at 14.2% (actually, it has only decreased ever since his first season, when he posted a very respectable 19.5%).

Contract wise, Randle'd be on the books for the 21-22 season at $20M, with $4M guaranteed.

Portis, on the other hand, is a proven 3pt shooter (and this year is not rebounding less than Randle, as he has a 14.4% rate). His contract expires at 15.7M after next season.

Problem is, NYK has little incentive to do it besides shaving money, which they don't care about. Plus, they already have cap space for next season although they can't attract FAs and next year's class is pretty poor. They'd want a pick for sure.

If they offered Portis and Allonzo Trier (RFA, but ridiculously small cap hold) for Tyler and a lotto protected 1stR, I'd consider it.

Anyway, you know who would be absolutely perfect on this team? Freaking PJ Tucker. He sure has haters on here, but it happens that he is posting a ridiculous 69.6%TS, on 46.2%3pt, plus his usual defense and strength on the boards. There is no team in this league that wouldn't benefit greatly from having him.

I want to see Saric and Kaminsky just play PF for awhile alongside two centers Ayton and Baynes.

Portis plays no defense. Doesn't even try. He's another black hole on offense, same as Randle. And neither he nor Randle are really 3pt shooters. Portis has been consistent from the corner 3, but neither are really face-up shooters at the 4 spot.

I've thought about Trier also as someone to try and pick up cheap to bring off the bench for some scoring punch, but I think he's too ISO and might not play the way we need him to.

Do you think there is any way we don't see a lot of Ayton and Baynes together (barring injury/suspensions)?
