NBA Trade Deadline Thread (Thursday Feb 6th 3pm EST)

Post by djy2j »

Might as well and make an official thread since rumors already swirling...

I'll start with the hottest rumor out there:

Heat interested in Trevor Ariza

They could get close by dealing Ariza again, and several contenders — including the Heat — have expressed interest in Ariza at points this season, sources say. – via Zach Lowe @ ESPN

The Cavs appear to have very little market for Kevin Love right now, sources say. Everything is malleable until Thursday’s deadline, but nothing appears serious on the Love front at this moment. The wild card was always Phoenix. The Suns are hard to predict. Rivals struggle to get a feel for the Suns’ objectives

This was in another thread obviously but wanted to place it here as well. Yes, I do not also quite understand the Suns objectives. Talk the talk but walk the walk...not so much. We lead the league in good intentions.

Keep an eye on Harry Giles III. Sacramento declined his third-year option for next season — a bizarre decision, even given Giles’ spotty health record — and a few teams have poked around, sources say. – via Zach Lowe @ ESPN

We have enough science projects already but Giles is still intriguing.

Hmm. Interesting. I remember on draft night they mentioned that he knew all the lyrics to Frozen. I wonder if he like frozen II.

Haha...I haven’t thought much about it. Kennard can shoot. If the pick isn’t lottery protected, then yes it’s pretty stupid.

On the surface, it would be dumb. If the trade includes Christian Wood and Reggie Jackson, with Tyler outgoing along with lottery protection, it's less so.

You shouldn't be giving up a 1st rounder for Kennard. Period. Even if he was healthy.

He isn't a bad player, but he his utility is very limited, especially with a team that already has Devin Booker and Ty Jerome. You can't play Jerome and Kennard together, and you probably can't start Kennard and Booker in the same backcourt without giving up 140 a night. Are you really going to give up a 1st rounder so that he can back up Booker?!

The Suns suck on defense and they don't have a power forward, the point guard position needs to be fixed. So the solution is to give up a 1st round draft pick for an athletically limited shooting guard?!

I'd much rather go after Bogi.

It better be lottery protected and then some
The pistons stink and have very few young assets - Kennard Is kinda one of those so if they’re giving up on him then the price shouldn’t be too high.

It would address bench scoring but not the spare big or pick of issue

Now would a good time have a few spare 2nd round picks JJ

Christian Wood would make it a lot better, but Rubio has to be going out instead of Tyler.

No to a first round pick, even protected, for Kennard. Don’t even think about it - just no.
Suns would then have no picks in the draft (if I remember correctly) after using their second rounder to get rid of Jackson.

Yeah. I like Kennard just fine, but I'm not happy with giving up a first for him.

What really gets me is completely unnecessarily giving up 2 second rounders (and Melton!) in the Jackson deal, when we could have used one of those to just grab Alec Burks, who is exactly what this team is missing on the bench.
