Another thing they should consider is making all players bought out after the trade deadline ineligible for the playoffs.

Or just make the signing team pay..not sure how to make it work under the salary cap, but if LA and Brooklyn had to pay 1/3rd of the salary for Drummond/Griffin/Aldridge...would they still do it?

Maybe let them sign for the minimum, but then there is a rule that the signing team sends a certain amount of money to the buyout team to cover part of the salary? I don’t know.

I’d also make it easier to trade salaries. Might help big market teams circumvent the salary cap too much though...so would have to think about that one more.

We could have three games won by 40+ points tonight.

They're going to need to do something to fix this. Far too many non-competitive games being played.
Are there? I think that might be an overreaction.

The Pistons are still playing their vets (Grant/Plumlee). That's not tanking; they just aren't good.
Free Agency
DeMar Derozan for the minimum!

PG: Jordan McLaughlin, Killian Hayes, Kris Dunn, Spencer Dinwiddie, Monte Morris

Why?! Drummond wasn't helping Cleveland, and hasn't had trade value for two years. Why do we need to change the system to force to stay or to keep him from going somewhere where he can actually do some good? Ditto for Aldridge.

And do we really need league action to control where a broken down Blake Griffin plays? Come on guys.

I mean, you’re right, I really don’t care that much about these buyout guys at all. I don’t really think any of them move the needle much at all. I’m more thinking hypothetically...I guess why does a team like Milwaukee even trade for Tucker? Just wait till he’s bought out. Or I guess they’re afraid he goes to LA/Brooklyn instead? Was there really a market for him?

Again, I really don’t care that much at all...buyout guys don’t really ever make a difference, so I really don’t think we need to change anything, just thinking out loud mostly.

On a separate but related note...I know baseball let’s the trading team pay part of the salary going out...what if the nba just allowed that? Would make it possible to trade these buyout guys, but I’m also just thinking for everyone in general.

A guy like Horford is only in OKC because of his contract. He’s at the end of his usefulness and he’s been sent home because neither party really has any interest in his playing in OKC. Can’t really work a buyout because it only benefits OKC if he gives back a bunch of money, which he could never recuperate. If OKC is gonna pay him to stay home...why not let them pay him to play somewhere else and get an asset of sorts in return?

How many contenders would send a decent asset and a small salary for Horford if OKC was paying 85% of his salary over the next 1.5 years?

Blowouts galore...Knicks are up 40 on Detroit. Jazz just hit 18 3s in the first half! NBA record.
Knicks won by 44 over Pistons
Jazz won by 46 over Magic
Blazers up by 41 on Thunder

The tanking has started...is it easier to tank without fans in the arena?
Well it does make some low risk gambling multis easier

I have to check back on this later because there might actually be an opportunity here. Zion, BI, Ball and even Kira Lewis are all questionable so if those guys do sit he might actually get a decent run out

Caps coming out of the mouth = lies coming out of the mouth. Man, who comes up with this slang? I'd never associate a cap or hat with a lie. I can't even begin to draw the comparison.
What is smallball? I play basketball. I'm not a regular big man. I can switch from the center to the guards. The game is evolving. I'd be dominAyton if the WNBA would let me in. - Ayton

https://www.dictionary.com/e/slang/no-cap/
In Black slang, to cap about something is “to brag,” “to exaggerate,” or “to lie” about it. This meaning of cap dates back to the early 1900s.

History lesson: In the 1940s, according to Green’s Dictionary of Slang, to cap is evidenced as slang meaning “to surpass,” connected to the ritualized insults of capping (1960s). These terms appear to be rooted in the sense of cap as “top” or “upper limit.”

So, no cap has the sense of “no lie,” “no joke,” “for real,” or “not bragging.” The expression is closely associated with slang in Atlanta-area hip-hop. It appears on Twitter by at least 2012, though it was almost certainly in use in spoken English before then.

I just got done reading that link and was going to share. I'm getting old. It still doesn't make sense to me but I've used slang that doesn't make any sense myself. Sick, tight, dope, even jokingly used finna'. None of those words correlate with their meanings so this just continues that trend.

Regardless of who said what, Igoudala and Oubre were in different stages of their career so their roles with the Warriors aren't analogous.

Igoudala was entering his twilight, hunting for a ring. Oubre is in his prime and trying to get the biggest bag possible.

Sorry, AIG. That one was my idea. Cap is short for "Capiopelielie," the Greek name of an upper Nile goddess of deception and gossip. A couple of years ago, I proposed cap as slang for a lie to the internet slang approval board, it was accepted, and they sent out a memo.

Agreed, Kelly is trying to establish himself as a big time player...he may ultimately settle in as a bench player in the league, but hard to fault him for wanting to be more at this point.

He’s establishing himself as a bonafide small time player
