Simmons...Suns...What if?
Simmons...Suns...What if?
Two minutes in. A nice little recap of Suns' history and a series of "what ifs" that could have changed Suns history. Followed by his "why not" the Suns could win the NBA championship this year.
Synchronicity and all that jazz, man.
Re: Simmons...Suns...What if?
These what if games are painful... one of the podcasts I listen to did a 10 worst draft picks of the last 5 years review, and Suns had 4 of them...
Re: Simmons...Suns...What if?
4 seems excessive...Bender and Jackson are fair. I’m sure Chriss was on there, but I bet there’s been worse. Who was the 4th? Unless they just went taking Ayton over Luka.
Re: Simmons...Suns...What if?
Actually Bender barely made it in there. I guess with these lists, they consider who you objectively could have / should have drafted at that spot, not just straight up busts. Bagley was consensus #1 in that list, and Ayton was not far behind and I tend to agree with them. Stix made it because we could have and should have taken Haliburton. Jackson because we needed a point guard and Fox was right there. And then Bender.

Forgot about Stix...seems a little early to be grading that pick though.pickle wrote: ↑Mon Apr 12, 2021 6:19 pmActually Bender barely made it in there. Yeah, again, along the same lines, it's not a testament on whether Stix will become a good player, but rather Haliburton was the perfect guy for us, and everyone who knew anything about the NBA thought he was a great fit for the Suns...

Re: Simmons...Suns...What if?
Simmons is a bit slipshod on his facts.
Hawkins first season with the Suns was 69-70, not "72" as he said in his podcast.

Well, so much for hopes and dreams ...

He also glosses over the 78-79 Suns.
In the "what if" category, Suns were up 3-2 on the Sonics.
Sonics win the last two games, and then dominate the Bullets (Wizards) in the championship series.

I guess I have to ask the obvious question, seeing how I wasn't around. What happened to the Suns in those last two games that caused them to drop the 3-2 lead?LazarusLong wrote: ↑Tue Apr 13, 2021 8:58 amHe also glosses over the 78-79 Suns.

Re: Simmons...Suns...What if?
Adams missed game six and they lost by a point at home, then he was back for game seven, but a costly turnover by Walter Davis in the last minute cost them and they lost the game by four on the road.
Adams missed three of the seven games and Truck Robinson had a terrible series.
Plus, Seattle was a very, very good team. They won two more games during the regular season and had lost in the Finals to Washington the year before.

Re: Simmons...Suns...What if?
Adams had a bum ankle much of the playoffs.
I remember Joel Kramer playing major minutes in the KC series, which the Suns won handily.
I think Joe Gilmartin observed that Truck turned into a underpowered Jeep in the Seattle series ...
