Just a genuine perspective from a regular guy on Twitter
Then there's these type of ridiculous takes by those with a platform tsk
Either way, that's a really cool stat and Clippers potentially closing out after their big win last night. One fan base about to get some long overdue celebration.....

Ya kinda like the Kidd era…so naturally the blazers are going to bring in Kidd as their new coachSuperbone wrote: ↑Fri Jun 04, 2021 11:30 pmSimilar to our malaise period of the past.

I'm not an expert about coaches. But it seems to me that Portland's roster construction is the reason they haven't won more, not coaching. I'm sure Stotts will get snatched up quickly by a team looking to improve. Hell, why wouldn't Indiana hire him tomorrow?

Yep, and after that endorsement from Dame, Kidd it is.Split T wrote: ↑Sat Jun 05, 2021 7:09 amYa kinda like the Kidd era…so naturally the blazers are going to bring in Kidd as their new coachSuperbone wrote: ↑Fri Jun 04, 2021 11:30 pmSimilar to our malaise period of the past.

It's not all roster construction. Might want to play a little defense too.Mori Chu wrote: ↑Sat Jun 05, 2021 9:08 amI'm not an expert about coaches. Agree. Dame hits insane shots but it seems everyone forgets he plays next to no defense.Superbone wrote: ↑Sat Jun 05, 2021 10:49 amIt's not all roster construction. That article is specific to game 5 when he erupted for 55. Seems par for course though. When your star player doesn't buy into playing defense, why would the rest of the roster? We all remember our atrocious defense when Booker seemed to take that side of the equation off. I know it also comes down to coaching and the rest of your roster but we can all agree that Booker has made big strides and a lot of that boils down to effort.
What is smallball? I play basketball. I'm not a regular big man. I can switch from the center to the guards. The game is evolving. I'd be dominAyton if the WNBA would let me in. - Ayton

When has Portland ever had a roster that anyone felt should get them far in the playoffs?Aztec Sunsfan wrote: ↑Fri Jun 04, 2021 8:35 pm“Championship or bust” is a recipe for bad decisions more often than not.
I don't know how far the Lillard/McCollum combo can get them; I just don't think it is very effective to go with two high volume small guards that aren't great defensively as your two best players.

Ya I feel the same and I think you’re going to see a vastly different roster next year. CJ will for sure be gone I think.INFORMER wrote: ↑Sat Jun 05, 2021 7:01 pmWhen has Portland ever had a roster that anyone felt should get them far in the playoffs?Aztec Sunsfan wrote: ↑Fri Jun 04, 2021 8:35 pm“Championship or bust” is a recipe for bad decisions more often than not.

I will say, I’m not sure you can put this all on Stotts, he didn’t really have the players to defend, but the level of commitment to defense is severely lacking. They’re just really bad on D and they need to be better. Stotts was limited in what he could do, but I think he could have done more.
Re: First-round (non-Suns) playoff games
Yeah I agree that the Same/CJ backcourt is not a foundation for a championship contender. Maybe if CJ were a lockdown defender, then it'd be more like Steph/Klay. But he isn't that player. I think they should trade McCollum and whomever else can get them more of a 3-and-D roster with a bit more size.
Re: First-round (non-Suns) playoff games
I still feel that some sort of McCollum-for-Simmons swap makes sense for both teams.

Re: First-round (non-Suns) playoff games
I’ve thought about that, I think Philly would counter with Tobias though.
I’ve wondered about something based around CJ for Ingram too.
CJ for Smart?
I think they need a new 5. Don’t think Nurkic is the 5 you want defensively with Dame.
Siakam would be an interesting target as well.
Re: First-round (non-Suns) playoff games
I saw someone throw out Middleton as a CJ-swap target and thought that was interesting. Portland would probably have to sweeten the deal.Split T wrote: ↑Sat Jun 05, 2021 8:17 pmI’ve thought about that, I think Philly would counter with Tobias though.

Re: First-round (non-Suns) playoff games
Why would Portland want Middleton when they just spent a bunch of assets to acquire Covington? Not that I love Covington, but they invested in the guy and I doubt they'd move their second-best player to acquire a redundant asset that is only marginally better.

Re: First-round (non-Suns) playoff games
I think Middleton is quite a bit different than Covington. Covington plays the 4 and is strictly a 3D guy. Middleton gives them a bigger playmaker who isn’t as defensively challenged as CJ.Mori Chu wrote: ↑Sun Jun 06, 2021 8:12 amWhy would Portland want Middleton when they just spent a bunch of assets to acquire Covington? That seems weird…does he have something else lined up? Does he think he’ll get the Laker job at some point?
