Around the League: Off-season
Re: Around the League: Off-season
Just tied for the worst?
Re: Around the League: Off-season
Pretty sure Portland's non-existent G-league team is worse than ours.
Re: Around the League: Off-season
Schedule is out…only Lakers, Warriors, Bucks, and Nets have more nationally televised games.
Re: Around the League: Off-season
Nice! I'd say only the Warriors TV schedule is out of whack. I guess Curry and a Thompson comeback are a big draw. Half their games on National TV?

Re: Around the League: Off-season
Ya not really a surprise. Warriors(Curry especially) are a big draw. Personally I think they’re a top 5 team this year too, so I have no problem with it.
Re: Around the League: Off-season
I need to see if Thompson is going to be back to what he was 2 yrs ago. If he's only 75% of that, I"m not sure how much of a difference he makes for them.

Re: Around the League: Off-season
That’s fair…I don’t imagine his offensive game will slip that much, but we’ll see. The defense might not be the same.
Re: Around the League: Off-season
I don't see why everybody has just written in the Warriors as a top team. It's hard to go from being that bad to being a contender. Curry and Klay Thompson and Draymond are all a year older, and Klay is coming back from a really serious injury. And outside of their core 3 they have a lot of questionable players. I do think they're a playoff team, but I suspect a lot of people will be disappointed.
Re: Around the League: Off-season
I do think the Warriors will be very good, but I wont be disappointed if they’re not…I’m not a Warriors fan.
Warriors had a pretty great defense last year..Add Klay to bolster the offense and they become dangerous. Curry doesn’t need a lot to make an offense special and if Klay is anything like his former self, they’ll be pretty great I think.

Re: Around the League: Off-season
I’m watching Untold Malice at the Palace on Netflix and I realized that the Indiana Pacers have never won a championship. This made me want to know all the teams that haven’t won it all. There are 11 active teams that fit the bill. Here they are from oldest to newest:
Pacers (1967)
Nets (1967)
Nuggets (1967)
Suns (1968)
Jazz (1974)
Clippers (1984)
Hornets (1988)
Timberwolves (1989)
Magic (1989)
Grizzlies (1995)
Pelicans (2002)
4 of the 5 oldest teams have all lost in the Finals. From that group, only the Nuggets haven’t made it past the conference finals.

Re: Around the League: Off-season
So, I was watching the Malice at the Palace live when it happened. I just didn’t remember all the details.
First, of course I find out that Tim Donaghy was refereeing so that triggered me. I don’t want to ever hear from that scum again. And then, the fight was all but over when an idiot fan threw a water bottle that hit Artest laying on the scorer’s table. He then sprints into the crowd and the whole thing escalates to another level. And then once that settles down, an idiot fan goes onto the court and challenges Artest to a fight! O’Neal comes flying in and it lucky that the guys slips and falls as the punch is coming.
Then they are escorted out while fan shower them with beer and popcorn and a few chairs are thrown. The whole thing had a huge impact on the league at the time and that’s when the word “thug” was really thrown around. Then the dress code is instituted.
Of course this history is what led to new rules including the one that got Amare and Diaw suspended against the Spurs.

Re: Around the League: Off-season
You're having it a little bit both ways here, 'Bone. If you're going to count the ABA franchises as existing since the start of the ABA, then you should include their championships in that league - Indiana won three times, in 1970, '72 and '73, and the Nets in '74 and '76. The Nuggets also made the finals in '76.Superbone wrote: ↑Sun Aug 22, 2021 1:47 pmI’m watching Untold Malice at the Palace on Netflix and I realized that the Indiana Pacers have never won a championship. Seems to me like you should either start all those teams in the year they joined the NBA (for the '76-77 season), or remove the Pacers and Nets from the teams that haven't won championships.
Re: Around the League: Off-season
Clippers 1984? That’s when they moved to L.A. They’re much older as a franchise.

I believe that rule actually originated when Kermit Washington broke Rudy Tomjanovich's face.Superbone wrote: ↑Sun Aug 22, 2021 2:42 pmSo, I was watching the Malice at the Palace live when it happened. I just didn’t remember all the details.

Re: Around the League: Off-season
The Thunder, like the Pelicans, are also not an expansion team, and have never won a championship, as their title resides in Seattle.Superbone wrote: ↑Sun Aug 22, 2021 1:47 pmI’m watching Untold Malice at the Palace on Netflix and I realized that the Indiana Pacers have never won a championship. I’m not having anything. Got it from an article. I don’t care about ABA Championships. I’m only talking about NBA championships.BKinSJC wrote: ↑Sun Aug 22, 2021 4:01 pmYou're having it a little bit both ways here, 'Bone. Re: Around the League: Off-season
Yeah, but if you only include the years they've been in the NBA, then the Suns are the oldest NBA franchise without a championship.Superbone wrote: ↑Sun Aug 22, 2021 10:58 pmI’m not having anything.
