I was serious when I posted that I fell asleep during the third quarter, so I went back and watched a replay of it.
The Suns defensive possession with about 2:40 left in the 3rd quarter when Payton pushed over McGee in the paint triggered an internal pain in my body that I haven't felt in at least 3 years. I had to take a moment to appreciate this team and the people who turned it around after seeing that from Payton.

Payton was terrible tonight.
And Pickle, I’m with you on Shamet. EJ kind of touched on it tonight: when Shamet has a moment to plant himself and catch and shoot he’s much more effective that his full-speed, stop-on-a-dime catch-and-shoot attempts. Now, that’s no big revelation, but the key is that Shamet is taking those difficult shots when he doesn’t always need to. He often has a moment more than he’s giving himself to plant and fire while square to the hoop.

I was really high on Shamet before the season and misread how long it would take him to get comfortable, but I'm pretty sure he'll always be an enigma shooting the ball. His release is so quick, smooth, and compact that it looks great until the split second after he releases the ball. He really is a poor man's Booker offensively due to missing that little bit more shot making talent that Booker has.
He's coming along and I think he'll be eager to fill in for Booker for as long as he's out. He's averaging 7.5ppg this year, but I think he'll double it for the next 3-4 games.

Ok guess this one always had a chance of being a mental battle for the guys
As commentators, players, coaches say all the time - you can be like No we're not looking past our opponent but it can't be easy at times. The energy level and tenacity was clearly down notches tonight with a just let us do enough to win type vibe
We been closing games in the last 5mins all season so guess it was kinda par for the course even if not ideal

I don't worry about Cam J 3pt stroke but I'm starting to pay more attention to his midrange. Will have to peep the stats but I think that % might be too low for his capabilities. Plus his FT% so far been annoying me lol
Cam P said that in the summer he worked on different finishes around the basket especially with his off hand. I think one of the preseason games he had a couple nice finishes and I was happy to see that. Now the games count, seems like he is just sticking with his left hand dominant finishes. As EJ harps on constantly, I do wish he would use his right hand more.
His lil flurry was fun to watch but still need to work on keeping guys involved

I need to rewatch the 3rd but the Pistons definitely came out with different energy and we let them get on a roll. It's very tough to blow teams out an entire game so I'm not so surprised, just wish we could've held them off a bit longer so other guys could play less minutes.
But yea, we executed down the stretch and once we took back the lead it was business as usual. The Pistons weren't ever really a threat despite their run. The only Suns player who looked really rough was Elfrid. He's really ineffective because he's absolutely no threat to score from anywhere so teams don't even really guard him and take away any passing options he has.

Obviously watching on Replay I fast fwd the TV timeouts and sometimes HT analysis
When I caught some of this I did wonder if it was actually at the game lol. Glad I wasn't the only one it threw off

This feels right to me. When Shamet gets a nice pass from CP3 or whomever and just pulls up, he shoots a great percentage. When he tries to dribble left/right and then shoot it, it feels like it always bricks out. Shamet did play well for us tonight and I was happy with his shooting and overall play.LazarusLong wrote: ↑Thu Dec 02, 2021 8:51 pmEJ made an interesting observation on Shamet: he's a better catch-and-shoot guy than trying to create on the move...
Nice win for our team, and 18 in a row is really special. Great accomplishment for our franchise. Seeing OKC lose by a historic 73 points reminds me that you can set records in either direction, and we're lucky to be where we are. We suffered through a lot of bad years to get to this point.
Cam Payne played great, as did Mikal. Mikal had 41 minutes though, so I worry about his energy for the Warriors game. Other than Mikal everybody's minutes were pretty reasonable, though they were on the floor till the end of the game. I thought Ayton had a nice game, too, with 17 and 12 on 7/11 shooting. Cam Johnson had another nice night, with 19 points and 4/6 3-point shooting.
Detroit isn't very good or very interesting. Their defense was awful; they let us get so many open looks and layups. Cade Cunningham looks like a pretty good player, though he wasn't exactly intimidating. Jerami Grant led them with 34 points, though I didn't at any point think he was going to "take over" and steal the win. Pistons got almost nothing from their bench, which helped us secure the win.
I don't have a ton of optimism that we'll win the next game, but hey, you never know.

The problem is one of the reasons they said they got him was for his movement shooting, that very few people on the team can actually do (CamJ is probably our best at that, and he still isn't very good at it).Shabazz wrote: ↑Fri Dec 03, 2021 2:59 amPayton was terrible tonight.

Man. Somebody was WAYYY off with that one. What a fool!
What is smallball? I play basketball. I'm not a regular big man. I can switch from the center to the guards. The game is evolving. I'd be dominAyton if the WNBA would let me in. - Ayton

Yeah I always skip HT. What was it?
Re: Game Day: Pistons (4-17) @ Suns (18-3), Thurs 02/12/21
I am liking the Payne McGee tandem. Cam drives to the hoop, picks up two defenders, either makes the layup or McGee is there to clean up on the glass.

It apparently was “faith and family” night at the arena and they had some awful Christian Rock band performing.
Just clarifying, in case anyone is sensitive, that the music itself was awful. I had it on in the background and noticed how bad it was. The lyrics were pretty aggressively religious too and that may have turned some people off.
