How Would You Rebuild the Suns?

What is then? This is what I heard recentlyINFORMER wrote: ↑Sat May 20, 2023 2:12 pmThat isn't true.Split T wrote: ↑Wed May 17, 2023 3:34 pmSuns can’t really trade him without guaranteeing the 15 million. It's clearly in Paul's best interest to not get traded and receive the $15M not guaranteed on the last year of his deal.
Re: How Would You Rebuild the Suns?
Unguaranteed salary still counts the same as guaranteed salary in a trade.
Re: How Would You Rebuild the Suns?
It used to, I don’t think it does anymore. I found this on cbafaq:
A similar technique involved trading players with high salaries and small guarantees, such as when Cleveland traded Brendan Haywood to Portland in 2015. However, for contracts signed during the current CBA only the guaranteed portion of the player's salary is counted as outgoing salary for trade purposes, so the usefulness of these contracts as trade chips is reduced1
Re: How Would You Rebuild the Suns?
You're right. I was thinking there had been recent trades involving players with partial guarantees and teams acquiring to waive them and save money. I thought of the Spurs acquisition of Danillo Gallinari as an example. But here was the rub:
And here is a more recent confirmation of your understanding (Spotrac):
And here is a more recent confirmation of your understanding (Spotrac):
https://www.spotrac.com/news/projecting ... 0guarantee.Another key difference: Unlike pending free agents, who can’t be traded, non-guaranteed players can be traded, whether at the draft or in the offseason (prior to their guarantee date). The key is that players only count in trades for the amount of their guarantee.
Re: How Would You Rebuild the Suns?
You're probably correct about these.INFORMER wrote: ↑Sat May 20, 2023 2:34 pmWith Booker and Durant, I don't think the Suns need a high level point guard.
I don't think the Spurs would have any interest in trading for Chris Paul.In2ition wrote: ↑Thu May 18, 2023 11:41 amSA may be trying to immediately build a winner, while also keeping an eye on building for the future(if they are smart, and I think they are). They have a lot of 1st round picks in the near future, along with a good amount of cap space next year. Would you offer CP3 for picks in the future, if the Suns already have a bead on an upgrade to CP3 for next season?

Ok, who says no? Assume Scoot is on the board.

That’s pretty good for everyone, I think.
Orlando would probably hesitate because I think don’t think they want to get younger even if Scoot will probably be better than Fultz very soon.

Re: How Would You Rebuild the Suns?
I don't think that is a very impressive return for us if we trade Ayton.
Re: How Would You Rebuild the Suns?
Phoenix. Duh.
Why would we trade Ayton for an actual #1 pick bust and a scrub?

The more I keep thinking about it the more convinced I am that we need to trade Kevin Durant before he declines any further. Try to get a young star and a couple picks back.

Ayton is a bust.

Re: How Would You Rebuild the Suns?
LOL. I bet most teams who have had a #1 bust wish they could've drafted an 18/10 center (who can obviously average more than that given a different coach).
If you want to see what a bust center looks like, go look up Michael Olowakandi or Kwame Brown's numbers.

Re: How Would You Rebuild the Suns?
Yeah, not really a fan of that deal, doesn’t really improve our depth at all, no draft pick either, not even a measly 2nd round pick. Fultz is nice but hes a bad shooter who’s injury concerns are worse than CP’s.
The rumored Mavs deal would be a better imo. Get a good young prospect on Green, THJ is a solid role player who can get his own shot, who’s able to randomly go off for 20+. McGee sucks but like Shel said, maybe you can get bullock instead. The 10th pick would be a great get, you can still draft a solid player who can help you you now( *cough* Dick *cough*), or use in trade, the 10th pick and Shamet could bring back a decent player, prefer to keep the puck tho.

Re: How Would You Rebuild the Suns?
Book is going to get old one day, we should trade him now while he’s still young and his value is sky high.
Re: How Would You Rebuild the Suns?
I wouldn't say that. He's a disappointment, certainly. But a "bust" is a guy you can't even play, a guy who washes out of the league. Ayton is overpaid but he's for sure an NBA starting center.

Re: How Would You Rebuild the Suns?
I agree.
My comment was in response to calling Fultz a bust, which I don't think is really true of either guy.

Re: How Would You Rebuild the Suns?
Anthony Bennett was a bust. DA is serviceable but not a franchise #1 pick cornerstone type.
Re: How Would You Rebuild the Suns?
I feel like DA and Fultz are comparable players. Both haven’t lived up to their draft status at 1. The thing is Ayton is checked out here. I’m probably higher on Fultz than most though. He never got his 3-point shot back, but he’s solid in the mid range, he’s big, he can get to the rim and he’s a very good defender. I think he’s a great pg next to Book. Ideally you’d want him to shoot, but then he wouldn’t be available.
Little is a big wing. He’s got some promise. He’s nothing special, but maybe a younger Torrey Craig with some upside.
It’s not a great return, but it’s about what I’d expect from an Ayton trade. I’d be fine with it…anything less would probably be a no for me, but it’s my baseline yes trade. I do like THJ/Green/10 better. I also like Myles Turner better.
