Re: All Things Ayton
Re: All Things Ayton
I don’t understand the wide assumption that OG would want out after a year. Here he’d be a key piece on a championship contender. He’s going to walk away from that for a short-term increase in his scoring average? By the time he’s playing for his next contract, KD will be gone or taking much less of the scoring load, so OG’s counting stats should be fine when it matters.

Beal and Booker are both shooting guards, which is literally a wing position. (Yes, one of them may start at point guard this season.)Split T wrote: ↑Tue Sep 26, 2023 9:19 amBeal and Booker are guards…there’s also no limit on how many wings you can have. We have 3 locked in players in the starting lineup(4 with Ayton). I’d rather upgrade that 5th spot and use a downgrade at the Ayton spot. This isn’t the 90s, we don’t have to have a star big man.
How is this about needing a star big man, when you said Ayton is not a star? It’s insane to me to want to downgrade at the big man position when that has been our weakest spot (4/5), outside of Ayton, for years. You are underestimating the need for bigs and rebounding.

Y’all really think that OG over Ayton increases our title chances for 1 year so much that it is worth taking that over a 3-year shot? That’s crazy, especially considering that any freak thing could happen in a one-year window.Kryptonic wrote: ↑Tue Sep 26, 2023 9:57 amWould be nice to get a draft pick or two in a trade if possible. Semantics…to me wing is the 3 and 4, but the point is I’d give preference to a player at any position 1-4 over someone who is strictly a 5.JeremyG wrote: ↑Tue Sep 26, 2023 10:14 amBeal and Booker are both shooting guards, which is literally a wing position. I’m not underestimating the need for rebounding…it’s just one of the easiest skills to replace. We could sign a guy for the minimum to rebound. You don’t pay 35 million a year for rebounding.
Also fun fact, Nurkic is a better rebounder than Ayton. I’m not arguing for playing without a big man, just that we can use our resources better. We’re not going to use Ayton the way you want him used. He’s not going to be running offense out of the post. He’s going to be a rim rolling big who is counted on to protect the rim and rebound. Get an occasional post touch when he establishes position. That’s not something you pay for 35 million for. You pay 16 million for it and spend the other 19 million on a starting wing.

She beat us every time during the Colangelo era (including the BC era).
During the Sarver era, she went away. Her interference was no longer needed since the franchise was adequately self sabotaging.
Now that Sarver is gone, she may return with a vengeance.

That’s where we completely disagree. If 3 of those 4 at 1-4 are superstars we can certainly get by with a “run of the mill” player at the remaining 1-4 spot better than at the 5.Split T wrote: ↑Tue Sep 26, 2023 10:24 amSemantics…to me wing is the 3 and 4, but the point is I’d give preference to a player at any position 1-4 over someone who is strictly a 5.JeremyG wrote: ↑Tue Sep 26, 2023 10:14 amBeal and Booker are both shooting guards, which is literally a wing position. If it’s that easy then why didn’t we do it in the last 3 years? It sure would have been nice to have another rebounder out there (especially at PF next to Ayton).
You’ve been arguing that you would do the trade even if Nurkic doesn’t play/comes off the bench/gets played off the floor in the playoffs.
Also fun fact: Nurkic has been in the league for 9 years and has only averaged double figures in rebounding in 3 seasons (one of which was an 8-game season!). As I’m sure you’re aware, Ayton has done it in 5 out of 5.

At least Bourguet ends his article with this:
The Suns are currently good as is. They’ve fielded offers, but they’d be wise to only accept a no-brainer package for Deandre Ayton. Outside of landing OG Anunoby, is a deal revolving around Jusuf Nurkic, Caleb Martin and T.J. McConnell the right one?

Some people make this assumption that media day coming up means that something HAS to happen... I'm pretty sure a team isn't looking to blow up their future because they want to have a good media day.

It's not about media day per se. That just marks the beginning of training camp. It's much better to have your roster set when training camp starts. For Portland, having Dame around is a major distraction. It's best if he is gone before media day.

So it was not just Indiana.Whether Lillard winds up in Toronto, Miami or another city, one thing has become clear: The Portland Trail Blazers’ interest in Deandre Ayton is genuine. Multiple sources confirmed the Blazers wanted him last summer but were unable to navigate a sign-and-trade with Phoenix. Portland views him as a legitimate cornerstone piece they could sell to their fanbase because of his youth, upside, and the fact that he was a former No. 1 overall pick.
