The US Economy
Re: The US Economy
And nobody likes big corporations more than Republicans.

That used to be the case, but welcome to 2024.

What are the biggest companies? You tell me which way they lean now. Most are now leaning left or are fully Democrat. Look at all the silicon valley companies. Look at the military industrial complex all capitulated to the Dems and now the Dems are the war party. There has been a shift in that direction by the direction of their major shareholders, Blackrock, Vanguard, & State Street.

Re: The US Economy
100% correct! It's why I hate both sides equally... LOL I hate that our countries decisions are made for the companies and not the people. Just look at how much lobbying is done against cannabis to keep it from be rescheduled or legalized.In2ition wrote: ↑Tue May 07, 2024 6:43 amWhat are the biggest companies? Aside from that crap... I feel the best balance for our country is a balance of socialism and capitalism. I feel both have pros and cons but ultimately a balance of both is good for everyone.

Democracy can suck. Having one guy control everything sucks a lot worse. We sort of have checks and balances. There are no checks and balances in Russia. Putin does whatever he wants and if you don’t like it you can go to jail or just die.

Summary
- Weekly jobless claims increase 22,000 to 231,000
- Continuing claims rise 17,000 to 1.785 million
WASHINGTON, May 9 (Reuters) - The number of Americans filing new claims for unemployment benefits rose last week to the highest level in more than eight months, further evidence that the labor market was cooling.
The weekly jobless claims report from the Labor Department on Thursday, the most timely data on the economy's health, followed news last week that the economy added the fewest jobs in six months in April, while job openings dropped to a three-year low in March.
Ebbing labor market momentum has put two interest rate cuts from the Federal Reserve this year back on the table.
"The labor market shows some signs of rebalancing with fewer job openings posted around the country, and now company layoffs are picking up, hinting at caution on the part of companies as they weigh the outlook for the second half of the year," said Christopher Rupkey, chief economist at FWDBONDS.

Don’t compare Biden numbers to Trump numbers. Just compare Biden numbers to Biden numbers and it looks bad for Biden.
Re: The US Economy
She may not quite understand how inflation works, but you have to give her credit, she has the art of gaslighting down pat. And, to do it with such an annoyed attitude that she got the question again, is a bonus.

They asked her to predict the future. She isn’t qualified for that.

Re: The US Economy
But she is qualified to be the press secretary and give out answers from the WH. I think a better answer and delivery would have been expected.

Re: The US Economy
A better answer would be to give a date? Then they hold her to that date and do a gotcha if it doesn’t happen. I’m sure if you give her more time she could come up with a better answer that spins the question into another subject like people in politics are trained to do.

Re: The US Economy
No, never said a date would be needed to give a better answer.

Re: The US Economy
They asked her when. They were asking for a date or something like a date. You didn’t like her answer. That doesn’t shock me. We talked bad about Trumps mouthpieces too before they stopped giving press briefings altogether. Now one is a governor.

Re: The US Economy
I don't pay much attention to the WH Press Secretary. What they say doesn't really matter very much. Asking them about the future of the US Economy is basically wasted breath.
Re: The US Economy
She didn't need to give a date to answer the question better. She could have said something like, "I can't give you a date or sense of a date. I wish I could, but there are a lot of factors that go into it, including corporate greed. I can tell you that we continue to work on the factors that go into this, and that inflation is down 60% from it's highest point. So, we will continue to work to bring inflation down and to get these prices to stabilize."
This doesn't place or accept blame on the administration for inflation, and it doesn't gaslight the press by using word salad to double speak and try make them think it was never their fault either or claim that prices are down, which they are not.

Everything is great in Mitt Romney's world. Do you think he ever worries about grocery prices or gas prices? The guy is about as out of touch as you can possibly be. I doubt that he ever even touches a door handle himself.Nodack wrote: ↑Thu May 16, 2024 9:13 amMitt Romney Tells MSNBC There’s ‘No Question’ That ‘The Economy Is Strong’ and ‘Doing Well’
