I was chatting with a friend, who didn't think that the folks up in Washington state where he is from would put up with this. I can't see California and Oregon coddling Trump, either.

With Thomas and Alito being openly insurrectionist as part of a 6-3 majority conservative SCOTUS, things like this just won't matter. The rules will be bent (twisted out of shape) as Trump needs them to be bent.

NYT puts out a big piece saying Trump is unfit for the Presidency. Which is correct, and good; but they've also run like 190 stories about Biden being old, and not many stories on all the insane things Trump has said he'll do if elected, so I think it's fair to criticize their volume of coverage.
