^ I worry a lot about this. But I have decided that a) there can't be as many of those people as I fear, and b) a lot of them are very old and will be gone before too long.
This one’s 32, and seems to be typical of my friends and neighbors.

I enjoyed the Stern interview. You really got to see the personal side of Kamala. She’s just a normal person who cares about family, friends and her country. She enjoys cooking for her family. She has been a lifelong civil servant along with her running mate. She talked about us and we. Trump talks about Trump. Maga likes to talk about the deep state and all the conspiracies. Then you see her talk and she’s just a normal person.

If Kamala wins big, I think it will really put a damper on all this. I think she could get 300+ EVs and really stomp the life out of Trumpism.

She could win big, Trump could have a massive coronary, die and that wouldn’t stop the Tea Party/Maga anti establishment movement. I do think they would be hard pressed to find another charismatic leader who was as comfortable lying with the conviction Trump does.

What will it take? Who knows? Kamala has promised to hire a Republican to be in her cabinet and rumor has it it is Liz Cheney. Republicans obviously hate Liz and so do many Dems. Liz Cheney has shown extraordinary courage facing down Trump and his cult in Washington and hiring her to be in your cabinet is definitely a message many on the right will miss and a good will gesture to those few with R in their title who haven’t bent the Maga knee.. Obama kept Bush’s Sec of Defense. I thought it was a good strategic move. Republicans were ready to pounce on whoever he picked and couldn’t say anything about Gates.

I guess I'm just coming around to a simple view of the election based on these priors:
  • Trump already lost to Biden in 2020, by an electoral vote count of 306-232. So, in general, if everything were the same, you might expect the same result this year.
  • But things aren't the same; Trump is noticeably less capable than he was 4 years ago, having trouble in his public speeches and rallies, which are noticeably poorly attended and unenthusiastic. His messaging has gotten more radical and extreme and hateful in the last 4 years, often focusing on past grudges and enemies he would like to punish. There's no way this is winning over new voters.
  • And, his opponent is clearly better. A fresh-faced exciting Kamala Harris is a much better candidate than a sleepy old Joe Biden. Voters did elect Joe, but Democrats were not excited about him; there were barely any Biden signs, his speeches and rallies were generally tame affairs, and so on. Kamala's rallies have a raucous energy, are sold out, and there are Harris/Walz signs out all over the country. She has a buzz, an excitement about her.
In conclusion, I see no real reason why Kamala 2024 would do worse in the election results than Biden 2020 did. And I see several reasons why she would do better, and why Trump 2024 would do worse than Trump 2020. If you just look at the map from 2020 and maybe take away 1 state from Kamala, I think she'll pick up a few new states (e.g. North Carolina) and could certainly get 300+ EVs and a dominant victory.

Please do reply and quote this post and mock me if she gets rekt and loses in Nov, and rub it in my face. I am just one dumb guy spitting out his dumb opinions.

I'll catch it the next day I'm sure, but I haven't seen a single appearance where she looks better than she did the before. She needs to distance herself from Biden but they are too chicken shit to do it. Now I'm afraid it's too late and the election is probably a toss up. Historical ball drop.

The Biden / Harris economy has been good, and in this article the LinkedIn founder makes a case for why Harris would be a good President for business.

I don’t think she needs to distance herself. People act like Biden’s Presidency was a disaster. His administration kicked ass IMO. Maga talks like this is the absolute worst economy in the history of the US and that is just plain BS like everything else they say. As a musician I am a pretty good barometer of the economy. If I’m busy the economy is doing well. I’m turning down a lot of work this year because the last two years were crazy busy and I need a life too.

Every stat that shows how an economy is doing says our economy is kicking ass right now. The only stat that Maga can try to run on is inflation and that has gone down too. After Covid, EVERY country on planet earth had to deal with the repercussions and ALL of them experienced inflation and supply issues, not to mention a war in Europe. None of the major countries has come out of it as well as the US has. None of their economies are doing as well as ours.

Kamala is the VP of Biden’s administration. Maga has blamed her for everything that happened under the Biden administration as if she were the President the whole time. In the VP debate Vance never mentioned Biden. He called everything in the last four years the Harris administration.

I wouldn’t distance myself if I was Kamala. I would celebrate Biden’s accomplishments and hope people give me some of the credit Maga already does. If Trump was President the last four years and the economy was exactly the same as it is right now, he would be telling us how we just had the most prosperous four years in the history of America and it was all because of him. Dems suck as self promotion. Trump is all about self promotion.

IMO she's trying to walk a tightrope. I do agree that Biden has had a surprisingly effective Presidency, and Kamala has been part of that administration, so in theory she is the incumbent candidate. But Trump was also recently President, while Kamala has never been President; and polling indicates that voters aren't very excited about Biden nor his accomplishments. So Kamala is essentially trying to run as the "change" candidate, including slogans like "We're not going back!" She wants some credit for the accomplishments of the Biden admin but doesn't want to be shackled to the less popular areas (like the border, or Israel/Gaza, or some economy stuff). And in interviews she is often getting asked, "How will you be different from Biden?" and she needs to have substantive answers to that question. So it's a delicate balance for her. I mostly think she's succeeding in that effort, but the voters will decide.

While she is Biden’s VP it would be really bad for her to start criticizing Biden in any way and if she did I would lose respect for her. She is having to thread the needle some. She cannot possibly win anything by saying anything about the Mideast conflict.
