I assume that Warriors / Wiggins headline is intentionally leaked negotiating BS because the Warriors don't want to get fleeced in any potential deal. I'm positive they would include Wiggins if they could get Butler. Likely they're just trying to avoid making that so obvious that they get owned and have to also give up a bunch of other assets.

Mori, you’re a warriors fan, what do you want a potential Jimmy/warriors deal to look like?

I like Beal, but obviously we all knew that even with KD healthy that record to start the season was a bit of fool’s gold, barely pulling out wins at the end.

I would trade Beal for Butler just to start the process of shedding salary, while also hoping it might get you deeper into the playoffs—although I don’t think a championship is realistic no matter what.

Agreed. I effectively just said the same thing in the game day thread.
Synchronicity and all that jazz, man.

What is the general argument for why the Heat would trade Jimmy Butler for Brad Beal? Is it:

- Because they genuinely think Beal is the better player? (lol)
- Because Beal fits better with the other guys on their roster?
- Because Beal is younger and healthier than Butler?
- Because they're sick and tired of Butler's BS and want him gone?
- Because they don't want to re-sign Butler to big money and don't want to lose him for nothing?
- Because Butler demands it and so they do it as a favor to him and his agent?
- Because they expect to get other assets back like a future 1st from us?

Or some other answer or combination of the above?

Gambo basically said no chance they trade ‘31 first rounder in any Jimmy deal. So you can sleep easy on that. Probably a matter of how many seconds?

Basically I think it comes down to not losing Jimmyfor nothing/doing right by him too. He took them to two finals after all. Beal is still a good player, he’ll keep them competitive and his deal will only be for two more years. Plus Beal and Bam are best friends.

Plus, wouldn't trading for Jimmy and letting him walk after this year get the Suns under both aprons? It would at least for sure get them out of this stupid second apron. It makes too much sense, which is why it won't happen.

Miami doesn’t have much of a choice. Butler will walk this summer. I do have doubts that they’d want Beal though…

As for the stuff we’re hearing from the suns side, I think it’s all posturing. Acting like we don’t want him to keep leverage. Saying we absolutely won’t trade 31. It’s way too good of a trade for us. Butler is a way better fit and it gives us an out money wise if we want. I honestly think we probably do it and end up moving 31…though I’m holding out hope we don’t…or at least get other draft assets back in return. Miami must have some lesser 1st round picks.

I don’t know if I’d do Beal+31 straight up for Butler. That’s very all in on a guy that is old, injury prone, and could walk. Too steep for me. I’d rather just play this year out and blow it up in the summer if we fail.

I do think it’s interesting it’s not being completely shut down. Makes me think Beal is fine with it. Our CEO is Beals agents son. He would know Beals feelings about it.

We’d get out of the 2nd…I’m not sure on both aprons…depends on where the apron lands. Right now with a max 10% increase to the cap and apron levels, it would leave us 25 million under with 7-8 roster spots to fill. So likely yes we could be under, but would mostly just be able to sign vet mins and maybe a partial MLE deal.

What if this is our only chance to get off of Beal’s contract?

A straight up trade of Beal for Butler? Sure, why not. Don't see any real upside for Miami but if you can get it done, get it done.

My problem with all of this is we had a bunch of guys who played well together at a high level in 2022. We traded some of them and a bunch of draft picks for "better" players. Unfortunately in 2023 and so far in 2024, these guys often don't play winning basketball together. No one has offered an explanation of this except that "it takes time" for guys to learn to play together. Not confident that swapping Butler for Beal does anything to fix this.

If the only answer from the Suns amounts to "don't expect anything good unless we are injury free", well follow the yellow brick road or whatever.

I’d trade Wiggins for Jimmy so fast lol

Maybe low key Jimmy already pushed “only Phoenix” button and we just gonna be in a holding pattern for a little bit haha

Maybe the Heat just want to see if he changes his mind before the deadline or something.

We can go undefeated for rest of the month and we still be a better team with Jimmy. I don’t get the “wait and see” approach either.

This trade makes way too much sense for us. Why even wait the 10-15 games or whatever? We should already know what we have with our big 3 after a season and a half. Beal and Book aren’t a good fit together whatsoever and that isn’t going to change. Jimmy would also be a vocal leader and hold the team accountable. I don’t really understand it from Miami’s perspective. If I were them, I’d rather let Butler walk than take on Beal’s albatross contract for another two years.

This is the real crux of this scenario. Nothing for letting Butler walk is better than Beal, unless there is real compensation. Can't imagine MIA values Baeal, but I guess more insane things have happened. Not getting my hopes up tho.

One downside I'll predict to all these rumors is that they will probably get in Beal's head and upset him and make him play worse. So even if we don't do the trade we'll make one of our star players into a worse player.

You never know. Miami was his first choice. And Mikal and Cam knew months ahead of time they would be part of any KD deal so maybe there have at least been discussion of "this may happen, would you agree to waive the NTC?". Maybe Beal approached the Suns after hearing reports and said he would be ok with a trade to Miami.

I read on Twitter that we would get out of both the 2nd and 1st apron if he just bounced after this year.

Wait...don't Butler and Beal both play SG? How does this help with positional redundancy?

I do agree that a fiery clubhouse leader will help, as does gotting out of the second apron. Give the team one last shot with Butler then blow the entire thing up.
