Re: What should the Suns do?
P.S. Ishbia and the team management totally read this site and they're going to do whatever we vote for.
Re: What should the Suns do?
What they SHOULD do is blow it up, that includes Booker, but I don't believe Ishbia will ever sign off on that. He's invested in too much money into his we are winners now operations to back out.
Love, Hurts.
Re: What should the Suns do?
Trade for Butler, trade Nurk for the best 5 you can get. Blow it up in 2026.
Re: What should the Suns do?
I voted for standing pat mostly because I think the team has no other realistic option.
- There is no trade with Nurk or Allen that will improve the team.
- Miami doesn't want Beal.
- Trading KD is not minor (and frankly, he seems to be the only guy that is playing well enough to get any wins).
- Blowing it up puts the team back into hell for the next 10 years.
Re: What should the Suns do?
What would you rather watch? The current team with tweaks or an all-new team that gives maximum effort every game but has half the talent and a worse record?Carno wrote: ↑Fri Dec 20, 2024 11:55 amI voted for standing pat mostly because I think the team has no other realistic option.

Max effort. I'd take what we can get for KD and Beal, start fresh around Book with Dunn, Oso and whatever roleplayers are left over. I think Book would stick it out if there was a legit plan in place that got us back to where we were 2 years ago. Wouldn't need to be a 5 year rebuild but he needs a Gasol to his Kobe. CP was that for him. It ain't KD.Superbone wrote: ↑Fri Dec 20, 2024 1:09 pmWhat would you rather watch? That's an interesting take, thanks. And somewhere between tweak it and blow it up.ShelC wrote: ↑Fri Dec 20, 2024 1:30 pmMax effort. Re: What should the Suns do?
We're not that far off from being a team like Houston IMO, but KD, Beal and Nurk are weighing us down. I don't know who would take them off our hands. KD obviously still has value but it needs to be the right situation with a team that's willing to extend him. Beal and Nurk may be lost causes.
I don't think Houston would give us a ton of picks and young players for KD, but they would for Book which I wouldn't want. If we took lesser picks/players for KD in a Houston deal, we may end up just attaching them to Beal and Nurk to move off them and then we'd be back to square 1.

I think the Suns are a PF/C away from contention.
If the Suns aren't going to play Bol Bol and Damion Lee then trade or waive those guys and get another big.

Re: What should the Suns do?
If a Beal for Butler swap is possible, that's a smart deal. However, I don't think Butler is changing the ceiling of this team. The main benefit is getting off of Beal's contract.
The weakest spot of this team remains the lack of front court size and athleticism. We're not contenders with a Nurkic and Plumlee Center rotation and undersized guys playing behind KD. Dunn and Oso cannot be relied upon in a playoff rotation as rookies, so the solution has to come via trade.

I NEED THE TANK BACK IN THE ROTATION. I'd rather have him as the starting 5 than anybody else on this roster

I don't know about contention, but a couple of moves could improve significantly our outlook, namely Allen and Nurkic:Uncle_Gene wrote: ↑Wed Dec 25, 2024 11:05 pmI think the Suns are a PF/C away from contention.

Regarding Allen, you'd have to call win-now(ish) teams in need of shooting (ORL, HOU, PHI, SAC, SAS, LAL, OKC, ATL, DET) with targets at $15.6M or less, or willing to give up a pick going to a third team in rebuilding mode for someone who we can use as an upgrade (POR, UTA, WAS, NOP, TOR, CHA, BRY). I believe you can extract a big man upgrade from that.
Then you pack Nurk with seconds and see who wants to give up similar salary on a player who at least gives us some upside, for whatever reason (for instance, someone having a down year like Clarkson, or a better talent/fit like Olynyk). Depeding on who'd be available, I'd also consider putting the '31 pick on the table, but I'd rather keep it.
I am operating under the assumption that Butler is not doable and we are stuck with Beal (which, if true, means that I'd bring him off the bench).

I love Frank. I was sad to see him go he was great in his role. He makes the right play offensively. He's limited on D but so are these trash centers we're playingCap wrote: ↑Thu Dec 26, 2024 7:09 pmYou wouldn’t be saying that if the Tank were actually playing for us.specialsauce wrote: ↑Thu Dec 26, 2024 2:43 pmI NEED THE TANK BACK IN THE ROTATION. This. Except change 2026 to summer 2025, if we still go nowhere.
