Frye was hugely underrated here. He was before his time as a spacer from the 5. Elite shooting…defense was just ok and he wasn’t a great rebounder, but offensively elite.
Not to mention…. Expectations were vastly different and one came with a self imposed moniker that wasn’t even close.

Ugh…. Thought we closed this thread. I’m getting PTAD.

So true. I remember the Dragic-Frye two-man game having the best points per possession in 2013-14.

I agree. I felt he was a key reason the Suns were unexpectedly good in 2013-2014, and not resigning him was a mistake that caused the team to regress after that year.

I just pulled up the on/off numbers for the years he played with us and we were anywhere from 6-10 points per 100 possessions better with him on the court. Every year(except 09-10) we went from awful to good offensively when he was on the court. In 09-10 e we went from good to elite when he was on the court. He seemed to have very little impact on the defense 1-2 points per 100 possessions either direction. Overall was a massive positive in on/off.

Combined with a deadly handler like Nash and Dragic, Frye was a problem opposite teams didn't really know they had. That's when "pick and pop" was starting to be a not taboo style for some PF/C, and of course way before the "stretch big" was considered a must on a rotation.

Ayton is at an all time low. I have no faith in him redeeming his value as an NBA player, but there's something churning if he wants one more big pay day.

Regardless, I'd put my bet on Frye having a more accomplished career when the dust has settled. It's simple -- Frye respects the game, Ayton does not.

I wonder if our lottery pick ends up going into the top 3, if the rockets would trade that pick and salary filler for Book or KD straight up. Like they can keep all their young talent they currently have, just give up Cooper Flagg. Also, I think the only way Ishbia might actually blow it up. If he gets a for sure generational talent back. If the pick ends up being end of lottery I think Ishbia will be fine eating it.

I do expect Josh Okogie for Nick Richards to happen…I wish it was Nurk, but we won’t be that lucky.

Brings up an idea I have. They should let teams pay part of the salary for a player they trade. They do it in baseball, but it would have the added impact of making trades easier in the nba from a salary standpoint. If we could pay half of Nurks’s salary still, he becomes easier to trade if he’s only owed 9 million a year. Or we could flip him straight across for Richards and we keep paying the difference…Charlotte would be more willing to trade for him if they only had to pay 5 million this year and next.

I'm no Ayton defender, but on this particular play, the lob/entry pass is not catchable. The defender has a clear path to jump up and grab it. Not sure what DA is supposed to do there. Don't mistake me; Ayton is a lazy bum who is a huge bust and disappointment as a starting NBA center. This clip just isn't the best illustration of that.

Look at who stole the ball and look at who finished the ball and then look at where Ayton is.

Ya the point of the video wasn’t to show him not catching the pass…it was a bad pass. It’s that he literally stopped playing. He was right next to the guy that stole the ball and that guy beat him down the court by 30 feet. His man got a wide open shot at the rim and Ayton was at the 3 point line still.

This is where a box score lies. That play shows up as nothing for Ayton, yet it is his fault the other team scored. Ayton will have good production in a box score, but he’s not a good player.

Gonna be funny when Isiah takes over as Prez/GM, brings DA back to the Valley a year from now as his reclamation project and calls him the best center in the league.

He is supposed to run back to defend, not jog like he is half ass warming up.

He did exactly what you're supposed to do. Be bummed by the bad pass and then loaf back down to the other side pretending that you are "trying."

Some team will take a flyer on DA in free agency thinking "he was in a bad situation in Portland, he played well in Phoenix. We can get thru to him.". Low risk, high reward for a team like the Celtics.

Not even Pop could motivate Ayton.
