Around the NBA: Week 13 (1/12 - 1/18)
Re: Around the NBA: Week 13 (1/12 - 1/18)
This was bound to happen. The pervasiveness of gambling, the sheer amount of money involved, and the ability to instantaneously gamble on the most minute aspects of each player and game (e.g. "Carl Johnson will get fewer than 4 assists") make it way too easy for a corrupt actor to collude with a player or team to rig outcomes. I think we'll have more of these over time until they reform the connection between gambling and sports. IMO legislation is needed.

It's going to get worse and think with time and A.I. models they'll be able to not only track things better but go back over the last several decades to uncover more fixes. If we think betting is bad.... don't even get started on prediction markets (Kalshi and Polymarket) which are just ripe with people making insider bets.Mori Chu wrote: ↑Thu Jan 15, 2026 10:59 amThis was bound to happen. Polymarket ruined the Golden Globes and I think predicted every thing right.Kryptonic wrote: ↑Thu Jan 15, 2026 11:44 amIt's going to get worse and think with time and A.I. models they'll be able to not only track things better but go back over the last several decades to uncover more fixes. I LOVE seeing the Lakers get trounced by the Hornets

Sadly, we've dropped our last two games and are now two losses behind both Houston and LAL, so it's hard for us to get back to 6th or 5th place unless they keep losing, too.

I think the Lakers have major issues and we'll catch them. I'm honestly not sold on the Rockets either. They're seeing the impact of KD just like we did; they'll be harder to catch, but I think we'll get the Lakers at least.
