Suns News: Week 23 (3/23-3/29)
Re: Suns News: Week 23 (3/23-3/29)
Our remaining 9
Jazz - Nothing to play for but pride
Grizz - Nothing to play for
Magic - Fighting for playoff position
Hornets Fighting for playoff position
Bulls - Nothing to play for but pride
Rockets - "Fighting" for playoff position
Mavs - Nothing to play for but pride
Lakers - Could still be fighting for position
Thunder - Probably resting their main guys
Could we win 6 of those and Houston only wins 2 more? Seems unlikely. But I'll enjoy watching the guys fight for it.

Huntley with 18 pts 8 rebounds , 3 blocks ( all in 1st half) and 1/2 3pt shooting in the g league yesterday. Back at it again today.
Re: Suns News: Week 23 (3/23-3/29)
Just another quick post on Huntley: some extend g league highlights here which includes some nice drives to the hoop from the big man:
I think he’s worth another 2 way deal next year given that he has continued to improve throughout the year.

Thanks for keeping us informed, Danimal.
Huntley does have some nice skills. It seems like we have a ton of almost-nba guys on this team, which I take as a good sign for the staff's ability to find talent on the margins and develop them.

Thanks lads!
You just know being under “house arrest” I’m gonna start a thread on better cultivation of the g league as a farming system for the suns. You know you want it!

Valley suns update:
So it seems the g league season is over for the valley suns
They didn’t have a great season so I don’t anticipate they will be in the g league play offs.
A bit of a breakdown on our main two ways guys below.
This link has some good stat overviews or learn more at your local library:
https://www.proballers.com/basketball/t ... alley-suns
Koby Brea
• Per game: 16.4 PPG | 5 REB | 2.4 AST.
Season high pts: 30
3pt % 34.8
Huntley:
• Per game: 15.5PPG | 8 REB | 1.1 blks .
Season highs: pts: 32, 15 Reb
3pt % 32.2
Fg % 63.2
Quick summary:
Brea started the season well notching serveral big games in his first 4 games. He seems to regress during the middle of the season having several sub 10 pt games and poor shooting %s. This coincided with a poor stretch of form for the team.
He became more consistent in his final 10 games % wise, and generally scoring in the teens. But 22pts was his highest score in the final 10 games
Huntley on the other hand seemed to have his larger games including his season high of 32pts in the final ten games of the season.
My guess is we see both in the next summer league and both back on 2 ways next year as they both have upside.
Side notes:
Combo guard Damion Baugh had a great all round season for the suns. He is also one of the few players who looks like he fits the nba squads archetype. But after making the equivalent of g league all stars he disappeared from the box scores. I don’t know if he was injured or got a contract overseas. I do hope they retain him next year but he likely did enough to get a shot at the end of a roster elsewhere or a euro pay day. Stats: https://www.proballers.com/basketball/p ... mion-baugh
Shakelford had a 54 point game for the suns late in the season which was one of the top5 scoring outbursts for g league this season. But he is a number of gunners of the team who are likely chasing euro contracts and probably took shots away from Brea.

Thanks for all the updates Danimal!
I know bigs are always hard to find but it just feels like we're always stacked with small scoring guards on our SL and GLeague teams. Maybe that's just a problem for most teams.

Re: Suns News: Week 23 (3/23-3/29)
Thanks!
Yeah it felt they were short on size so a game Huntley was out I saw Brea playing at centre (at least in the box scores).
As Suns are a team that needs to find ways to improve on the margins, I feel they could still do more to utilise their g league team better. As mentioned above, find more players that fit the nba teams archetype. Outside of Huntley and Baugh it felt like a fairly Fairly generic squad with a lack of size when our rooks didn’t play.
Our style of play didn’t seem to match the nba squad that much in terms of pressing defence etc. maybe they don’t want to give away too much in the g league but Houston used have success in the Mike D days testing their 3pt gunning ways in the league and finding players who fitted that mold- eg suns legend Troy Daniel’s.
Re: Suns News: Week 23 (3/23-3/29)
You can't bag on his efficiency though. 13-22 and 5-11 from three. You want a player getting up a lot of shots when on that kind of a heater. No FTs. While also getting 6 boards and 3 assists.
