Peat is stronger with a lower base which will likely lead to him being more effective against NBA front court players than Dunn ever will be. Dunn is more athletically explosive and he will probably always be much better at high end defensive plays like athletic blocks or passing lane steals.

Peat also seems to have a much better offensive feel. He can actually dribble a bit, read defenses and make smart passes, unlike Dunn who often seems a bit slow with every decision that's not a catch-and-shoot or straight drive to the rim. There's also some mid-range potential with Peat who's shown some decent pivot work and touch out to 12-feet.

Neither is a consistent 3-point shooting threat in the NBA right now.

I really like that he's only 19 years old and was widely considered to be a lottery pick 6 months ago.

Obviously there are negative reasons for him being available at pick 30, but I see a lot of talent and we're not getting another late-bloomer type at that draft spot.

It’s a solid pick at 30. There’s a decent chance that if he stayed one more year at AZ, he could’ve been a lottery pick next year’s draft.

Kellen Olson compared him to Torrey Craig in his article about potential Suns draft targets and I think that’s a good comp for what he is right now. He will be a solid rotation piece, whether that is this year or next, with the potential to be an elite role player. OG/Aaron Gordon hybrid type.

I don't think this pick is what makes Dunn the odd man out. Koa and him play practically opposite roles and Dunn was already out of the rotation by the end of last year anyway. But the offseason is long. Let's see what happens with Green, Allen and O'Neale first. I just love Dunn's defense and rebounding too much, and he is so inexpensive.

I love the pick and especially the fact that once again the FO was able to make things happen. Sure, Koa's long range shooting is in question but not every day you are able to come away from draft night with a 19 year old who started the season as a possible lottery pick, when armed with just #47 and a couple of additional seconds.

Can't wait to see what happens in the second round. Baba Miller, Brazile and Veesaar are still there.

I’m a little the same with what I’ve read about him - I don’t see it as someone you trade up to get (undersized, poor shooter, good but not great defender). I’d love to be convinced otherwise! And rooting for him to be good of course

I guess it depends on where you put the focus. He does not shoot 3s and is not the longest guy, but at forward he has a clearly defined skill as a driver and finishes really well while not being a black hole (and can pull up too from midrange too but considering our roster that is just a nice to have skill). He is very strong (especially considering he is 19) and does rebound and defend well enough to not consider those areas as gaps.



For a trade up from #47, I don't know if I can expect anything more. Among the available prospects, I could have considered Miller and Brazile but they are way older and obviously also come with flaws.

But yeah, if yesterday you told me I had #30 and Peat was available, I would have gone with him for sure. I really like the blend of Fleming-Peat-Maluach plus Oso (and Dunn still).

Did you have other targets at that #30 range?

I like Peat for this team. He's strong, has long arms, and good enough coordination. Most importantly, he's comfortable on the court - doesn't rush, doesn't look flustered. He can put pressure on the rim, and that's something we really need. I feel like we got a true NBA rotation player.

Unfortunately I think the writing on the wall is there for Dunn. Not that he and Dunn are so similar but if Dunn couldn't see consistent minutes last season, why would he now with a 19yr 3/4 just drafted. Maybe we thin out the perimeter a bit via trade but Peat seems to have traits that translate to the NBA where he could be effective sooner than later.

Peat is built a bit like two guys we've been linked to - PJ Washington and Miles Bridges. He seems to be cut from that mold so not surprising he was targeted. But those two would obviously be a "ceiling". At 19, still a lot of upside given the talent he has already. I like that he plays with fundamentals, footwork and uses his strength and bulk inside. He's got a veteran kind of inside game getting to the basket and working in the post. We can use that. I like the athleticism and coordination. I like that he has some passing feel already. He plays bigger, should be able to guard thicker, more physical players but also bully smaller players. I don't expect him to be a lockdown defender or shotblocker but a switchable defender who can disrupt.

I don't see the shot getting fixed. He's a movement shooter/scorer which is why his midrange looks dangerous but he's not a set 3pt shooter. Stick with what he does well, keep him on the move inside the 3pt line and et him hone his scoring inside, his power moves and passing out of the post. He can work on the 3 but I'm not gonna hold my breath.

He’s not as athletic but I think about what Aaron Gordon was able to do with his offensive game and 3 point shot over time. If Peat is above average at a few other skills that keep him on the floor, if a 3 point shot comes later I won’t be shocked.

I know they were hot for Colin Murray Boyles last year, this just feels like a reach to obtain a similar player. I tried to find something exciting about this pick and I just couldn't. I don't like it.

I don't think taking a 19 year old with his basketball resume and talent is a reach. He's not 22 or 23, he's not an 18 year old who's really raw with little basketball experience. There's some clear basketball there. He may not work out, but it's a solid enough pick.

Not suns news but thought this was pretty awesome…. The Perry’s basketball teams best player broke his hand in a game before the state championship, and still played the championship. Koa…. Ranked as the nation's No. 4 recruit in the Class of 2025 by 247Sports. Maybe a kid to keep an eye on. At least we know he’d play through a serious injury if he’s ever in a championship game situation.
