2026 FIFA World Cup

Post by Mori Chu »

Surprised that we don't have a thread about the World Cup in here. I'm not much of a soccer fan, but we have had a lot of the games on in my house and have really enjoyed them. I'll make a thread here for any discussion of the rest of the Cup.

USA! USA!

Balogun reinstated.

Huge win by Norway over Brazil yesterday!
Synchronicity and all that jazz, man.

US not looking good down 3-1, 60 minutes in. Gave up some preventable goals.

It’s hard to get into soccer because at this point in my life there’s just not enough time to get to know all the different players and coaches and teams, but it is undoubtedly an extremely exciting and mesmerizing sport. Even when I watch basketball live sometimes I can be distracted and start browsing my phone but with high quality high stakes soccer I’m fully absorbed.

Plus I do think this is one sport where the value between watching live vs. rewatching or highlights is great.

The goalie coming out of the box like that was some straight up, hs stuff. Couldn’t believe it.

Most embarrassing play I've ever witnessed

Disappointing game. Felt like we made a bunch of amateurish mistakes and gave the game away. But I guess that's what a superior team does, they put you in a bad position and force you to make mistakes. When they showed the stats breakdown Belgium had way more shots on goal (like 10-1) compared to us, among other gaudy stats. They dominated the game and deserved the win.

It has still been a fun Cup and fun to watch all the games live at a "normal" time rather than having to stay up until 3am to watch them.

2 big mistakes led to 2 goals. The US couldn’t control the ball at all. Terrible passing and first touches. If the keeper had sent it out instead of dicking around it wouldn’t have been that big a deal.
