Around the League: The Offseason
Re: Around the League: The Offseason
Well it has been an exciting last 24 hours.
Re: Around the League: The Offseason
What a horrible trade for Atlanta. As annoying as Howard is, Plumlee is a massive zero, has a bottom-5 contract in the league and it goes on 1 year longer than Howard's. For the right to take on that turd of a contract you move down 10 spots in the draft? It's the rare trade you can't justify for either financial or basketball reasons.
Re: Around the League: The Offseason
1. Dan Gilbert is a terrible owner who is lucky James was born nearby. The way this is going I don't think anyone will blame James for leaving again.
2. I like the Lopez-Russell deal for both teams. The Lakers need cap space and playing time for Ball and the Nets have cap space to buy reclamation projects.
3. Atlanta-Charlotte deal is weird. If the Hawks are blowing it up I guess they save some money? And no idea why the Hornets want Dwight, they have Frank and Zeller. Plumlee has an extra year on his contract, but Dwight makes twice as much and is a nuisance. And he can't play at the end of games because he sucks at the line. Which brings me to...
4. Please no DeAndre Jordan. He makes twice as much money as Chandler and about as much sense for this team if not less.
5. The Kings should not package their picks. It seems like plenty of players have a chance to be the best in this draft, better to take two bites at it.

I dont know if Len wants to play for a russian owner.
Re: Around the League: The Offseason
I'd be a bit concerned taking on DeAndre after what he did in Dallas. Not so how much how it all went down, but the fact that he couldn't leave LA/didn't want to leave LA/felt more comfortable being in LA. I wouldn't want to bring him in here and have him be unhappy or disengaged.

Re: Around the League: The Offseason
I don't think it's a coincidence that Jerry West just joined the Clippers from the Warriors and the first rumor about them is in regard to DeAndre Jordan.
The NBA has been trending towards "small ball" for the better part of a decade, and it's gotten to the point that having a non shooter on the floor is a big disadvantage in playoff games. Paying $22-24M/season for a guy who basically can't play at the end of a must-win game isn't very smart. On the other hand, his contract expires after 2018-19, so that huge cap relief could be appealing to the right team.

When you have a team of point guards who have suspect passing skills the first thing I'd do is trade for a center who relies highly on lobs to be successful.

I like the way you think. In fact, I think we HAVE to throw in Knight to make the salaries work.Sunsfan4life wrote:Sure...I'll do Jordan for Chandler. If the Clippers play their cards right, I might throw in Knight:)

Re: Around the League: The Offseason
Saw a tweet that the Kings offered the Lakers 5 and 10 for #2. Not sure how accurate but thought it was interesting.
Re: Around the League: The Offseason
I don't dislike DeAndre Jordan. His salary is too high for what he gives you, but he's quite good at what he does. Excellent defender, rim protecter, rebounder. Offensively limited but great at finishing with thunderous dunks if you pass him the ball when he's rolling to the basket. I bet a guy like Ulis would play well with him.
If we could get DAJ without giving up the #4, I'd consider it. Something like Chandler, Knight, and Miami's 1st rounder?

Re: Around the League: The Offseason
We sure are popping up in all the "older" free agent scenarios - Love , DeAndre now Millsap. Think McD / Management not about another "play the youngsters season" ??
The Atlanta Hawks are reportedly exploring the possibility of executing a sign-and-trade deal involving All-Star forward Paul Millsap.
According to ESPN's Brian Windhorst (h/t Ryne Nelson of Slam Online), Atlanta has received feelers regarding a potential sign-and-trade for Millsap, with the Phoenix Suns, Sacramento Kings and Denver Nuggets all showing interest.

I really like millsap and I'd love for him to teach Chriss some things but he doesn't make a lot of sense otherwise. He's in his 30's.
Re: Around the League: The Offseason
I'd understand a Porzingas acquisition. But what's the point of a Milsap, Love, or anyone like that? Guys that still make big $ and want minutes type guys I want no part of. I think a guy like David West would be just as valuable with teaching plus he makes league minimum and doesn't need consistent minutes.

Oh I agree, I don't think it's a good idea to sign millsap

Re: Around the League: The Offseason
I have a feeling we keep getting mentioned in these older player trade rumors because we are often trying to help facilitate trades with all of our cap space and get back an asset or young player.
Or maybe it's just wishful thinking...

Lowkey Ryan Anderson was another terrible contract last offseason. The contract frenzy has a stupid amount of people making 17-18M per or more.
Re: Around the League: The Offseason
The list of players Houston is targeting is interesting. The Harden / Blake pick & roll would be awesome but maybe Millsap is a better fit in Houston with Capela and Harrell there?

So glad we mostly sat things out from a major free agent signing standpoint last year.Ring_Wanted wrote:Lowkey Ryan Anderson was another terrible contract last offseason. The contract frenzy has a stupid amount of people making 17-18M per or more.
