Don't you take that chance, though? Seems crazy to hamper yourself when you are trying to sell AD and Cousins on your team.
I think they'd be a lot more hampered had they let him go without a clear replacement. Best way to impress AD and DC is showing a willingness to spend.
That exact strategy has failed time and time again. The Cavs did it the first go around with LeBron. The Wolves did it when they had Garnett. The best way to impress your superstar(s) is to put together a good team, and that involves good talent evaluation and smart financial decisions.
Again, they didn't really have a choice. There are no quality PGs on the market that they could have slotted into their remaining cap space had Jrue left and then they're terrible.

I actually thing Jrue can be a top-10 PG in the league. He plays both sides of the ball, doesn't turn it over and is a solid shooter. And for what it's worth, he was healthy last year.

New Orleans bigger problem was the contracts they handed out to Solomon Hill and Omer Asik. Those contracts backed then into a corner with Jrue.

That Jrue Holiday contract is a giant turdburger, no chance I'd pay that guy that, ever.

It's an over pay, but at least he's a good player. It's much better than the deng/mozgov/Noah/Parsons deals from last year. Also, I'd rather pay holiday 25 mil than Knight 14 mil.

Or (IMO) Teague $19M.

I really think Minny should have gone after George Hill instead.

Boy does Isaac look good. I hope we didn't miss. I may have egg on my face but of course hard to say anything too definitive after a few Summer League games.

I think he could be a really good pickup for some team (not the Suns). It will also be interesting to see where The Real Bogdanovic lands.
Really? I've been hoping for a while that the Suns could get a hold of him. I think he's a young guy with a lot of promise. I wouldn't mind signing him to a reasonable deal at all.

We'll see how he does against NBA defenders, but I still really like Isaac. I think of it like this: If he plays one on one against Chriss, Bender, Dudley, Chandler, Len, Williams, which one of those guys beats him? I don't think any of them could. Then I think about the starting bigs from Cleveland and GSW. Which of their bigs beats him one on one? Love and Green, for sure. Tristan Thompson and David West, sure. So as I project Isaac this season, he's already somewhere between our guys and a championship level starter.

In a highlight clip, he looks unbeatable, but from watching the entire two games, he wasn't nearly as dominate. He had a hard time driving on guys, took a lot of jump shots and wasn't shooting all that well on them. He did get a lot of garbage buckets.

I've been watching him and he looks good against SL talent but didn't dominate by any means. Did the same in college. I still worry about his frame and strength and I don't like that he shies away from contact. He's stepping back, fading away yet he's clearly the tallest, longest, most athletic guy out there. I like the Dirk fadeaway and he's bouncy and seems to have a good feel, but let's not get carried away.

https://twitter.com/wojespn/status/881902728804487169 Interesting. A lot of people speculating he won't take the job because LeBron won't commit to staying.

This is basically where I'm at. He did a nice job in SL, but it doesn't mean very much. Still question whether he will get his shot off in real games. He has a great high release, but it takes him a sec to get the ball up there; so while he won't get blocked much, he may get stripped a lot on the way up. And he seems too skinny and lanky right now. I could be wrong about all of this. Encouraging start but we have all seen SL stars who were duds in real games.

I certainly think he has a chance to be special some day, as the first two games are encouraging. He will be good for Gordon, giving them a little more length in the forward rotation. I'm not going to have a buyers' remorse after 2 SL games and not even seeing Jackson play yet. He was about what I thought of him before the draft and hopefully he continues to develop for the Magic.

We get to see Tatum vs. Fultz today. Also a SA team vs Utah right afterwards to start the Utah Summer league.

Thanks for the heads up. I don't get ESPN 3 but I found the Boston/Philly game at 4pm PT on NBATV.

Oh, def no buyers remorse. I just like Isaac (and a lot of guys from this draft class), and I will be watching them to see how it goes.

My biggest hangup with Isaac was his ability to put the ball on the floor and create offense for himself or his teammates. I haven't really seen much in the first two SL games to make me think I was wrong.

He'll get his points with catch-and-shoots, put-backs, jab-steps, etc. What will make him a star will be his ability to break defenders down off the dribble and get to the basket.
