I hate hate hate that the Suns have established that the money is going to rule the team going forward. This is the type of thing that ruined the 7SOL team and the OKC team. Teams like the Lakers and Celtics just laugh at Phoenix's limitations and that drives me nuts.O_Gardino wrote:I don't think there's any way we get him, and I'm ok with that. He is not going to be one of the best 2 players on a championship team, and I don't want us making the same mistake OKC made with Ibaka.Split T wrote:I saw that. Wonder if that's coming from Capela's camp to get his value up. We might love him, but can't imagine we have set plans before the draft. Unless we are 100% in on Doncic.
I'm not enamored with Capela, I think he's limited offensively, but he's a very good finisher and elite defensively. If we land Doncic, is be fine putting our money towards Capela. A Doncic/Booker/Jackson/Capela core plus another shooter is a good start.
I still don't see any reason Houston would have to not match. He seems like the most obvious match candidate of all the restricted free agents.
So if we threw 25 at Clint, that would mean half of our cap would be going to him and Booker? Wow.Split T wrote:27 I believe
I don't see all the doom and gloom. I don't see this team as being a hundred moves away. It could get righted this off-season without sacrificing everything.Marty [Mori Chu] wrote:When you start looking at these draft picks, free agents, etc. and how they'd fit on our team, it really starts to hit home how bad we are at all of:
* shooting
* rebounding
* passing/assists
* defense
You can only really identify 1-2 guys who are above-average at any of the above skills on our roster. And usually if they're great at one, they're awful at another. We still have a long way to go.
I know I keep harping on how awful our 3P%, but do you think we can really replace half of our top 9 guys with someone that can hit at least an above average number of 3s? While aslo improving our defense, and getting people that can rebound? With Len leaving, our only top 50 rebounder is Chandler, and he dropped way off as the year progressed, and will be another year older.In2ition wrote:I don't see all the doom and gloom. Don't panic, In2. Nobody builds a championship team in the NBA by handing out max contracts to every player they like. That's how the Knicks work, not Boston and LA. If you give a guy a max contract, he had better be one of your best 3 players.In2ition wrote:I hate hate hate that the Suns have established that the money is going to rule the team going forward. Capella at least isn't exactly worth max or near max, but you have to pay a bit of a tax to get him. It would also cause some problems for Houston if they are compelled to match.
Did anyone read on ESPN Insider about how each team fits with Doncic? It was interesting in that it gave the limitations of the Suns with Doncic, but didn't factor in FA, trades, or even the other picks that could help the fit.
We've been a good rebounding team for the past few years. It was frustrating to see us bench our rebounders this year, but I think we will be a good rebounding team next season with one decent center + Big Sauce getting some minutes.Marty [Mori Chu] wrote:When you start looking at these draft picks, free agents, etc. and how they'd fit on our team, it really starts to hit home how bad we are at all of:

Yes. Does this link work? I don't think it will be up long.In2ition wrote: Did anyone read on ESPN Insider about how each team fits with Doncic? Booker and Daniels are above average shooters.Marty [Mori Chu] wrote:
Do the exercise of trying to disprove the above:
* Who is above average at shooting on our roster? Booker, yes. Daniels, sometimes. Who else?
* Who is above average at rebounding on our roster? Chandler. Williams. (Arguably neither guy is going to get a ton of minutes for us next year.) Who else?
* Who is above average at passing/assists on our roster? Ulis. Maybe Jackson, for his position. That's it?
* Who is above average at defense on our roster? Jackson? Chandler? Dudley? Oof.
This is a really broken team.
A seven-footer who shoots .366 from deep would qualify... if only he did enough inside the arc that defenses actually had to respect him as a seven-footer. Maybe Coach K can unleash Bender's potential.Split T wrote:Booker and Daniels are above average shooters.Marty [Mori Chu] wrote:

The keyword is "start." Capela would eventually be making $30 million under a max contract.Split T wrote:Max would start around 25 million a year for Capela
Just a question.INFORMER wrote:The keyword is "start." Capela would eventually be making $30 million under a max contract.Split T wrote:Max would start around 25 million a year for Capela
I fully agree with the very bottom statement.Split T wrote:Booker and Daniels are above average shooters.Marty [Mori Chu] wrote:

Chandler, Williams, Len were all great rebounders. Jackson, Payton, Harrison, even Chriss are at least average to maybe above average. Rebounding is not our issue.
Assists are a problem but I think that has more to do with the system than the players. Booker, ulis, Jackson, Bender, Dudley, Chriss have all shown some passing skill. I think we'll see assists go up fairly significantly with Igor's system.
Defense is a big issue. Jackson has potential as a defender, Harrison was good defensively, but we need a lot of help here. I thought Chriss was actually pretty good defensively last year, although that's compared to a pretty bad rookie season.
Defense and shooting are my two biggest concerns.
