We have to match. We have a few hours to try to work out a S&T, but I don’t think Indiana is going to offer us anything worth it. Turner and a pick is nowhere near good enough, and the Pacers won’t offer more than that, if they even offer that.
It’s hard to have an opinion on this without knowing exactly how it impacts our KD pursuit. If we really can still get KD without anything involving Ayton, then I can just have an opinion on this alone. In that case I’d be in favor of just flipping Ayton for Turner. I would want a pick too, but I’m wary of committing long term max money to Ayton. If we need Ayton or something from Ayton to get KD, I hold out for Turner and a pick or I just tell Indy we’re matching.
Scenarios in order of my preference.
1. Somehow we loop Brooklyn in and just work out some 3 team deal today to get KD to Phoenix and Ayton to Indy.
2. We S&T Ayton to Indy for Turner and a 1st and keep assets in play to flip for KD
3. We get KD without Ayton or assets from an Ayton deal and just take a Ayton for Turner swap.
4. We match an Ayton offer and still find a way to get KD
5. We let Ayton walk and still get KD
6. We S&T Ayton for Turner and a pick but don’t get KD
7. We S&T Ayton for Turner and don’t get KD
8. We match Ayton and don’t get KD
9. We let Ayton walk and don’t get KD
So my clear preference is still just get KD
What else ya got?
Have you heard of this guy named LeBron James?

I still don't understand why everyone is so against the idea of running it back AND adding Durant. Or thinks that's impossible.
I don’t think anyone would be against that…it’s probably more the feasibility of it.
Feasibility of it aka will Sarver pony up for a huge tax bill to try and win a championship.
I’m more concerned about having the assets to get Brooklyn to agree to a trade
I think if KD wants to be here he will be...eventually. Perhaps during the season like I said before. We might not have to give up more than Cam + filler and picks, or even just filler and picks.
(But that's enough about KD. I don't want anyone accusing me of turning an Ayton thread into a KD thread. )
My analysis is that we were treading water with the negotiations. And were exploring other options for Ayton, possibly NY or Utah. This was Indiana’s way to force us to deal with them.
Maybe this is what the Suns wanted all along. Rumor is there was a cheer from the Suns' offices when Indiana announced the offer sheet signing.
Yep. He got a phone call from the Suns while on-air and then changed his tune.
Did he change from this tweet or to this tweet? Was he saying we didn’t want to pay the tax before?
Or we talking about how he thought suns would let Ayton walk but now think we match?
Both. He changed to this tweet. He was saying they won't match because they won't want to pay the tax. Then he talked to the Suns and now thinks they will match because the Suns told him that they are willing to pay $100M in luxury taxes if that's what it takes.
Gotta give Gambo his due though, he's been saying "offer sheet" for a week now.

Oh no...you know what happened the last time that occurred...

There's no Don Nelson this time there to renege.
I wonder how Amare felt about it all. Hopefully Ayton can handle everything as well as Amare did the next season.

My suggestion...bring him back...and hire Chuck as a special trainer to slap some toughness into his game!
And Amare.
Really, the guy you want working with him is Hakeem. He was done one-on-one coaching before and Ayton has some similar physical tools. And if he could become 80-90% of the player Hakeem was we would couldn't pay him enough.

Yep, I've been saying for years they should arrange the Hakeem offseason training for him.
They should have done the same with Amar'e.
