Let me get this straight, you want to take a kid who has never stepped foot on an NBA court ahead of League and/or Finals MVPs? There a lot of players that had a ton of potential that did nothing in the league.

None that has had the potential of Wemby

You don’t think there is a point of diminishing returns in relation to height and career longevity in the league?

I think there’s risks for sure…but if I’m the Indiana Pacers, I think my best chance to win a title is to get a potential top 5 guy all time as a 19 year old. If I take Giannis I have a lot fewer years to try and build a contender and I’m gonna have a hard time doing it.

I’m not sure what the answer is. There are a lot of pluses and minuses to consider. There really hasn’t been a player like him in a lot of respects.

Yep, he’s 1 of 1…I’m pretty excited to see how it goes

Have a hard time believing he'll be BETTER than Giannis or Jokic. Giannis has already won literally everything you can before turning 30.

He could’ve won more. You also don’t get the Giannis of the past, you get the Giannis of the future. He’s been in his prime for 5 years now. How much longer does he last? With Wemby you’d get pre-prime, prime, and post prime. Of course you’d have to keep him, but that goes for anyone.

I’d seriously be tempted to take him 1…I’d probably take Jokic and Giannis ahead of him…Luka would be the only other guy I’d consider. Unless I was like the Lakers or some franchise that can get stars easier. If I’m a mid-market or small market team, I’d probably just go for Wemby and go 8-9 years younger than Jokic/Giannis.

Good video about Wemby and #1 picks in general. This guy always has really good content. I think he is the best basketball YouTuber.
Watching the video, who was the best player on the Nuggets in Jokic's 3rd season when they made the playoffs? They claimed that Jokic wasn't.

It wasn’t remotely close, it was definitely Jokic

I haven't seen the vid yet, but the Nugs did not make the playoffs in Joker's 3rd season. That happened the next season.

In Joker's 3rd season, the Nuggets were still thought of as Murray and Gary Harris' squad with Joker setting them up and accidentally scoring more than either. At least, that's how the national media thought of them, and Joker was much more reluctant to score back then. That squad had very balanced scoring between the top 6.

By the time they hit the playoffs, it was very clear who the top 2 players were Joker and Murray. I think injuries to Harris and Murray forced everyone, including Joker, to recognize how clearly unstoppable he is.

Fun fact - Jamal Murray has never lead the Nuggets in scoring. It's been Joker all along. The previous leader was Gallinari.

Jokic was 19/11/6 in year 3, National media maybe hadn’t caught on, but he was easily their best player

50-50 on Wemby. How easily people forget that Fultz was incredibly hyped, Wiggins was supposed to be a generational player...as was Ayton. #1 picks are not a sure thing and Wemby could easily become an Oden.

None of those guys were hyped like Wemby

He was their best player in year 2, but it took a some time for a lot of us to catch on. I'll admit that I didn't see it at first.

Maybe that's what it was, best player on the team in the third year AND made the playoffs.

Yeah, I think that was it.

Now I've watched the video, and it really drove home how underwhelming recent #1s have been. I knew there hadn't been a ton of great #1s recently, but I'd never sat down and counted. There was a 7 year stretch of underwhelming picks between Davis and Edwards. 7 years. Damn. No disrespect to KAT, but he's the best player in that 7 years.
