There are 4 seasons by pg’s with a higher WS/48 at the same age or older than CP3 this year at 37. They areCharlie Smithy! wrote: ↑Wed May 17, 2023 3:58 pmSo is John Stockton pretty much the only point guard in NBA history who retained his Effectiveness into his late 30s?

Stockton was also known for being a gritty defender. Knew when and how to foul and not get caught. His game wasn't built on speed, but accuracy.Split T wrote: ↑Wed May 17, 2023 6:22 pmThere are 4 seasons by pg’s with a higher WS/48 at the same age or older than CP3 this year at 37. Re: How Would You Rebuild the Suns?
Hi eFT% is running around 50% and his 3 Pt% is in the mid 30s, so meh...his 2 Pts are a bit low, but he also is shooting mid 80s for FTAs, so its not like he can't shoot. He's averaging about 20/7APG the last 3 seasons, he's got a better than 2:1 FG to TO avg, and he snagged 1.7/1.8 Steals per game. He seems pretty solid from the numbers...shrug...

Given we fired 2 scouts, I wonder how far that sets us back as far as planning for next season? How many scouts do we have?

Never found out which exec and scouts were fired. Tough to say what's impacted by the firings.

Don’t worry, we still have one left.

I kid, but if they were the guys that continually discounted the draft, and/or made any decisions on the picks in the 2nd round since Dragic, then good riddance.
The Suns could really use some young talent that's been developing for the past 2-3 years and is ready to contribute in the playoffs now. The last 1st round draft pick on this team is now Deandre Ayton. The team is about to get old very quickly and doesn't have any type of stable of young athletic talent waiting in the wings. We all can see that just the decision to take Stix instead of Haliburton caused a domino effect.
The Suns need to start winning on the margins, and become better tactically, better at scouting, better at long term strategy, better at developing players and identifying talent to fit in the team. They have to recognize that KD isn't getting any younger. They have to let go the belief that Payne is the future at PG and Shamet is a long-term piece. They are way too inconsistent and injury prone.

The first obvious question is, "We had scouts?"

Re: How Would You Rebuild the Suns?
I agree. Even though we didn't draft them, we do have some young players on the team (or resignable). Okogie, Saben Lee, Bazley are all young guys.In2ition wrote: ↑Thu May 18, 2023 9:58 amThe Suns could really use some young talent that's been developing for the past 2-3 years and is ready to contribute in the playoffs now. I would strongly favor re-signing Okogie if he'll stay on reasonable money. I know we couldn't really play him deep in the playoffs vs Denver, but that was mostly due to bad shooting, which we can lock him in the gym and have him work on. Okogie was highly useful in the regular season, and you need guys like that who can soak up minutes and play great defense. He's still very useful in a lot of other situations, and I believe he can get better at his shooting. His defense and his drives to the basket were really needed. Maybe his playoff flameout will help us in a backward way because it'll lower his contract price this offseason.
I would love to see Bazley stay and get a real chance to show what he can do. We basically never gave him any chance. I'd keep him at the minimum if he'd stay.
We definitely need to manage our young players, picks, and assets well in the next few years to avoid turning into an old team. But CP3 will be gone by end of next year at the latest (if not sooner), and then really the only "old" guy on the team is KD. I hope and expect us to get new guys who want to come here and play with "36."
Re: How Would You Rebuild the Suns?
Okogie showed he’s still just a minimum guy. I’d welcome him back at that price, but wouldn’t pay him more.

Re: How Would You Rebuild the Suns?
I am not convinced that Bazley or Saben are going to make a leap with more development. It might only be incremental or just natural improvement with experience, but their ceiling isn't very high. I agree in that I think Okogie can continue to improve his 3 pt shot, and he should work on improving his finishing and layup package.Mori Chu wrote: ↑Thu May 18, 2023 10:16 amI agree. Re: How Would You Rebuild the Suns?
I really like what he flashed for us in the regular season when given minutes. I’m ok that he couldn’t put it together in the playoffs. I think to some extent Craig going off in round 1 sapped his momentum.
Okogie I’d bring back on a minimum deal. This summer he has to know that if he can knock down his shot more consistent and work on taking his guy to the bucket then he could get start minutes.
On that note, I would LOVE it if we could get Bruce Brown as our starting PG. That dude could totally be good enough playmaker and defensive captain. He puts pressure on the rim.
To win a ring, this team needs to be 6 players deep similar to Denver. Of course there’s no way Denver giving him up.
We shall see what happens. I hope Suns flip Ayton for two solid players and CP3 for at least one.
We definitely need our own wing 3 and D guy again, better playmaker, and a 5.

Re: How Would You Rebuild the Suns?
Being that I think it's time for the Suns to move on from CP3 and find high level PG to take over. That being said, SA may be trying to immediately build a winner, while also keeping an eye on building for the future(if they are smart, and I think they are). They have a lot of 1st round picks in the near future, along with a good amount of cap space next year. Would you offer CP3 for picks in the future, if the Suns already have a bead on an upgrade to CP3 for next season? If the Spurs don't want to lose cap space, but want to take on CP3, maybe they can work out something that is advantageous to the Suns too. If I were them, I wouldn't feel threatened by the Suns, tbh. Once you have a guy like what it looks like Wemby is going to be, no one has a counter to that, imo. You could call him a 7'5" cross between KD and Giannis(projected). How do you stop a guy that doesn't even know you are around when they rise up for a shot, and makes your 7 footer look slow and small?

Re: How Would You Rebuild the Suns?
Brown is a free agent and Denver can only pay him 7-8 million a year. If we open up the full MLE we can easily outbid them and offer a starting spot. He’s also close with KD. He’s one of my favorite targets. Probably my favorite tbh.Drewsprocket wrote: ↑Thu May 18, 2023 11:25 amI really like what he flashed for us in the regular season when given minutes.
