Interestingly, leftist groups are hoping that Kamala does not pick Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro as her running mate. On paper it's a strong pick: he has a good record and is from the crucial swing state of PA. But he has spoken out in defense of Netanyahu and Israel's genocide in Gaza (fwiw Shapiro is Jewish himself). So for example a lot of Muslim voters in the also-crucial swing state of Michigan would not love Shapiro as the veep.

There may be a bit of a coalition problem for Kamala in picking her VP because right now, she's sort of a blank page; moderate Dems and lefty Dems can all just sort of assume or pretend that she's on their side. But the moment she picks a VP, it signals what her policy priorities are, and that may make some of these groups upset. Pick another woman (Whitmer)? Maybe annoy some squishy Republicans and independents who were thinking of going blue to stop Trump. Pick Shapiro? Upset the Gaza/Palestine crowd. Pick Mark Kelly from AZ? He has criticized unions, so maybe the teamsters and AFL-CIO and others won't support you.

I have heard that the VP pick often doesn't really "help" you in a Presidential campaign, but they CAN hurt you. That may be the case here. She may just need to find the most bland and inoffensive pick possible to avoid fracturing her coalition. Beshear? Walz?

I still think Kelly is the strongest candidate but I get how losing him as a D senator isn't great.
Synchronicity and all that jazz, man.

Yeah, and, if Kamala wins the POTUS but the Dems don't have a majority in the House nor Senate nor Supreme Court, she won't be able to really do very much. The GOP will completely stonewall her to try to make her a one-term President and she won't see a single bill get passed; all she'll have are executive orders which they'll challenge in court and probably get SCOTUS to overturn. That could lead to a disastrous midterm and/or 2028.

Tim Walz, governor of Minnesota, is another potential VP pick. He speaks well and is from a swing state. Just thought I'd mention him since he is being discussed.

Oh, Minnesota is now a swing state?

I'm not sure I get your meaning. I guess Minnesota is bluer than some of the other rust belt states? I always get them mixed up. Point is that Kamala seems to be considering several potential VPs from that general region to help her win some of those states (MI, WI, MN).

They can't help themselves. They just viscerally hate Democrat candidates who are PoC or women, and she's both. They're going to say so many sexist and racist things about her. "She's the original hawk tuah girl"? Reprehensible. I really think this kind of talk is going to backfire. Lots of people will see it for the low blow that it is.

Fair enough. I was just curious if MN became a swing state now.

Harris has better numbers than Biden among black and Hispanic voters. AZ, NV, GA back on the menu?

The Republicans early attack plan on Kamala basically calling her a slut who slept her way to the top is a bad plan. Any decent person would be very turned off by this, especially women. I hope they keep it up. More blood coming out her whatever stuff only helps her.
In four years, you don’t have to vote again. We’ll have it fixed so good, you’re not gonna have to vote.

Mike Johnson and the GOP are putting forward multiple really silly challenges to Kamala's candidacy. They're saying she shouldn't be eligible to appear on the ballot, and separately, Trump is suing to say that she shouldn't be able to access the former Biden/Harris campaign funds. All of these challenges are based on hooey and are very likely to fail, but it's an example of how things go these days I guess.
