Beal for all his faults is at least a guy who could play most of both seasons if you actually kept him.
He's averaged 50 games a season over the last 4 years.
50 games is more than half, so "most." :P

They need him more than ever! He's what they need to take the next step and get them over the top.

I just think that turns their window into a 2 year window. He is what they need, but are they a championship team in the next 2 years? I just think they should look at someone younger. But he could be their Chris Paul.

What kind of talk is that? The NEED him! Their whole rebuild is wasted if they don't get KD. They don't need young talent that MIGHT develop into a KD years later. They can have KD RIGHT NOW! He is definitely their Chris Paul. ;)

If Houston trades our picks to Milwaukee for Giannis, we will never get them back. KD won't agree to a trade to Milwaukee to be their only star, and Milwaukee wouldn't want him if they're rebuilding anyway. So they'd just sit on our picks for the next several years.

Our best hope is that Milwaukee decides not to trade Giannis this summer and gives it one more year, forcing Houston to talk to us about KD. If Milwaukee DID decide to trade Giannis, Houston would be a prime partner for them, with tons of young assets to offer. So that's quite bad for us.

Giannis forces trade to Suns. Suns -> Giannis, Houston -> KD, MIL -> picks and young talent.

Make it happen Giannis! Houston sucks! Hot, Humid, traffic. ugh! Phoenix is much nicer in the winter!

The only hope would be Giannis forcing his way here and I just don’t see that

Houston would obviously want Giannis over KD if they had the choice. The issue is the 2-3 year window a team will have with KD. They need to be on that timeline too otherwise they're just repeating the mistake we made of giving up a younger core for a short title window. Plus you're looking at a 2-3 year extension. So Houston going 7 games in the 2nd round or even to the WCFs and falling short might've been better for us because a team will need to think KD can put them over the top next year.

So a team like the Knicks may have even more interest if they get knocked out by the Celtics and see Brunson being their only shot creator in the playoffs. It's why GS wanted KD too - they're an older team that was looking for offense and know their window is closing around Curry and Dray.

Who else could fit that description? The Clippers? Lakers? Mavs?

Knicks make sense by your logic. Lakers don't really have any picks or young assets to trade, so they're out. Mavs could be an option, simply because their GM is a moron. But he may be about to get fired? Maybe his replacement will also be a moron? Clips could be interesting, but do they have the assets and picks we would want? I don't see any young blue-chippers on their roster to steal, and I bet their pick stash is depleted for the next few years from putting their current core together.

I kind of don't hate Minnesota as a possible trade partner. They'd probably want to give us Randle (meh, but he's not terrible), but I'd ask for one promising youngster and multiple picks. Not an A+ haul but it might end up better than those other teams could give us. I would also want to hear what the Knicks best offer would be. And KD would probably like the idea of playing with Ant and having Gobert to anchor their defense; better talent fit than he has had here.

Indiana? They aren't going to win the title, so they might want a KD on their roster. But I don't think KD would want to go there.

Dark horse: Boston? What if they lose in the ECF to the upstart Cavs and feel like their title window is closing for their current nucleus? Ask them to gamble away their future picks in a package? Main problem is, I don't see what players they could send us that they would be willing to send, that we would want, that would match the salaries closely enough. Might have to be a multi-teamer.

Clippers would actually be very interesting to me, but I’d want Zubac and I don’t think they’d want to do that. I’m starting to feel like it will be Minnesota. Get ready for Randle/Divencenzo/Dillingham and maybe a pick or a couple swaps
