It was great to get the comeback win to start the season. This group are a breath of fresh air compared to what we've had to put up with over the past couple of seasons. They'll surprise a few people if they stay healthy and continue to play with this kind of grit.

I'd have liked to have seen Fleming and Goodwin but get why Ott went with the players he did. With that said, I'm not convinced by NHD, he looks lost out there. I suspect he'll fall out of the rotation once Green is healthy.

Nevertheless, plenty to be optimistic about!

Not to pick, but was disappointed to hear Ott say he didn't think they be tested like that this early. Nothing is given in pro sports and despite the solid preseason, it's still the preseason and now it's a new ballgame now. Gotta be ready for everything, especially with this new group. Maybe everyone was nervous and caught off guard, including the new coach. At least they battled thru it but it's gonna be a dogfight every night.

That was just an off-hand statement. Nothing to be concerned about, imo. It seems people are interpreting it to mean "We are unprepared and don't know what to do," which is something entirely different. He and the team handled the adversity well and got the win.

I'm sad to say that we won't be seeing our rook's this year other than blowouts.
When does the G-league season start?

I'd honestly rather watch them start start down there than watch them cheering on the bench.

I agree. I think many are misinterpreting it. Just a throw away statement for the reporters. Of course we're going to be tested all season long and the players and coaches know that. Just that we had a rocky start. I think we'll have much better starts to games as the season progresses. We were a little tight to begin with as a team.

What is smallball? I play basketball. I'm not a regular big man. I can switch from the center to the guards. The game is evolving. I'd be dominAyton if the WNBA would let me in. - Ayton

My favorite Suns players (who got minutes) after 1 game, power rankings:

1) Devin Booker
2) Ryan Dunn
3) Collin Gillespie
4) Mark Williams
5) Nick Richards
6) Grayson Allen
7) Royce O'Neale
8) Oso Ighodaro
9) Dillon Brooks
10) Nigel Hayes-Davis

Hope to see the rooks play at some point, but that's how it goes. NHD hasn't really found a role for himself yet.

Dillon Brooks doesn't deserve the #9 ranking, but I just don't like the way he plays. Chucked up too many bad shots, gets into trouble, doesn't look around and see his open teammates. Openly shoves and trash talks the other team's best player to the point where it makes him go off on us and score more. I know he brings some toughness and positives but overall I'm not sure how net-positive he is. Oh well.

I feel like NHD is maybe getting some veteran respect for now. He's 30, signed with us from Europe so we're giving him first crack at minutes.

I'm not as down on Grayson. I thought he did his usual thing, shot well, hit the boards. Royce saved himself with some big shots but he was pretty bad, especially on defense for a few possessions. Tough to gauge Richards because he only played 3-4 minutes. I really like Oso but he's obviously not starter quality and if we're not giving him looks in PnR, he's pretty ineffective overall.

I get it with the minutes, but would have liked to see Fleming get some burn and move Dunn/Brooks out of the PF position and onto DD and Lavine. It's not a big deal, and maybe Fleming just isn't ready. The two vets are kind of my biggest fear about this team. They are defiantly good enough to earn the minutes, but that might not be what's best for us long term.
Fleming needs to get all of NHD’s minutes. I get why we’re giving NHD first crack at them but I think it’s the wrong short and long-term move.

NHD was worth rolling the dice on but he doesn’t look to have it. Fleming has the tools to be a very handy player. I think it would serve us better to get Fleming up to speed as quickly as possible

I just haven't seen a single game from NHD to suggest to me that he's an NBA player. I saw those highlights from his time overseas, and he looks good in those. But in NBA games I just haven't seen him show one strong skill. He doesn't seem to be a great shooter, defender, passer, scorer, rebounder, anything. I hope he'll show us something but it has not been a very good start for him.

Yeah, it's rough with NHD. He finally makes it to the NBA and he's having a rough start. If you listen to his postgame interview, he doesn't seem to recognize this. I'll dig it up. It's only one game so let's give him a little time before moving past him.

ETA: Here it is. He just sounds happy to be here.
