Grass isn't greener. They're building the right way? Their draft picks Harkless, Nicholson and O'Quinn aren't doing much of anything. Their best perimeter players can't shoot. They just fired their coach, haven't made a ton of progress over the course of 2 1/2 seasons and they can't make the playoffs in the watered down Eastern Conference. So...

They have a lot of nice pieces. But their shooting is way short of where it needs to be. Drafting Gordon this past summer was very questionable IMO.

I thought they bungled their draft, personally. I would've taken Randle or Vonleh at 4. I would not have traded a future pick to move up two spots, but hey, when you're in love...
No way I pick Randle over Gordon. I'm very high on Vonleh so I could see that.
I think they were committed to getting a point guard and were not impressed (and rightfully so) with Tyler Ennis to reach for him where they were or to trade down and pick him.
I think Payton will be a successful pick, I'm just not crazy about how many non-shooters they're trying to play together.

First, building the right way doesn't mean you get everything right. No one does. And me saying they're building the right is more a comment about their philosophy than it is an endorsement of every move they've made.
Second, I would feel a lot more comfortable building a contender with Vucevic and Oladipo than I would anything the Suns have now.
Third, Harkless and Nicholson don't play and that's on Jacque Vaughn, not reason criticize the players. O'Quinn has actually played and developed; he has 3-point range now for crying out loud.
Fourth, they've managed their cap well and I think they've drafted well. Fifth, I really wasn't factoring the coaching in at all in my comment. I can't think of a single organization that hasn't made a bad coaching hire. Players are more important to me. Good (let alone great) coaching is hard to fine. One of the rarest commodities in the league. So a coaching hire blunder is more forgivable. And even if you have a good coach, if you don't have the right players, it's not going to do you much good.

I have really liked what Orlando has done in the draft, but there FA signings and trades they have made this offseason were questionable.
I think they overpaid Frye, Ben Gordon's contract was ridiculous, and I'm thinking they could of gotten more for a good 3 and d guy like Aaron Affalo who was basically the center piece for them for the D Howard deal then just Evan Fournier. The Jaque Vaughn experiment has ended as well. I like the fact that they are trying to bring in vets to help the kids, but shelling out that kind of money for frye and gordon were head scratching.

I think they wanted Gordon to be a trade piece. Notice his second year salary is non-guaranteed. I didn't like the Frye signing at all, but I understood why they wanted him; the team desperately needed perimeter shooting to help their young players develop.
They needed to deal Afflalo to make room for their young players, but I have never liked Fournier. He started the season absolutely on fire and the trade looked like a home run, but since then he's come crashing back down to earth.

I'm having a birthday today. Just wanted to thank you guys for the past year. I spend a lot of time on the road, so this is one of my favourite ways of unwinding. Few things better than talking basketball with folks who actually know basketball.
I was hoping I would wake up to news of some mega suns trade, but if you do feel like doing me a favour today, have a look on the last link I posted in the 'comedy help' discussion in the general section and let me know your thoughts.
thanks again

He could be, just like to see him control those turnovers though.

Bless you sir
I'm never sure if my posts contribute that much, but I will always try to provide some comic relief when I can.
