Ugh. I tried to make an account on Threads, and after manually adding 100+ people to my following list, the site popped up a message saying I'd been banned because I didn't use a genuine name and identity. Which is true; I used a fake name, because I basically just want a pseudo-anonymous account for reading other people's messages. But they banned me for that? I guess I can't use Threads as a platform. I had to make a fake Instagram account just to get a fake Threads account, too. LOL.

Jon Stewart did a good show this week about the mismatch between the way Trump's supporters talk about him vs how he actually is.
Well, probably it is. Not a lot of people pay attention to Rob Schneider.

It's kind of funny the collection of losers and misfits that the GOP trots out as their celebrity contingent. Scott Baio, Rob Schneider, the Hercules guy, Kid Rock, Candace Cameron, James Woods, these types of people. What a murderer's row.

Elon has changed a lot over the past 2-3 years. He used to talk about Twitter as a public square, a place for free speech, a neutral place. Not so much any more. Now he, and it, are openly right-wing and positioned to help Trump and Republicans.

Elon himself has become one of the biggest conduits of misinformation in the world, here spreading lies about FEMA to hundreds of millions of people.

Musk has quickly gone from an eccentric billionaire to one of the worlds most dangerous men of disinformation.

This is one of the most weird and cringey rallies I've ever seen. So many bad photos. I wonder if Trump actually likes Elon or just puts up with him because of the influence and money he has.

Elon is bailing out struggling GOP campaigns with an infusion of much-needed cash.

I liked this article about the dismal state of misinformation and BS we now have to deal with in 2024.

Remember when Musk and a couple of journalists went all ablaze over their "Twitter Files," which allegedly showed that old Twitter was censoring information and biasing itself toward the Presidential election? Now Elon and X just openly do that and it's no biggie. All the same people who purported to be outraged about it then are mum now.

Look at this BS from Matt Taibbi, the journalist who helped break the so-called "Twitter Files." He has nothing to say about this new revelation, presumably because it doesn't line his pockets.

I think a lot about the world and how each country is run differently than each other. Which things are good and bad about each country. I see the Oligarchs In Russia as rich businessmen, who after Putin, control the country. I see the Musks, Bezos and Zuckerbergs as US Oligarchs. Musk openly campaigning for Trump and manipulating the world’s biggest social media company to help him? Corporations have been ruled people and can donate money to campaigns. Trump openly asking big oil to give him a billion dollars in return for favorable treatment? I think we are dangerously close to becoming Russia even without Trump. Do we the people control the country or does big business?
When a company swallows up all the competition it becomes a monopoly. Monopolies are generally not allowed because they can harm consumers by limiting competition, which can lead to higher prices, fewer choices, and lower quality products. When the airlines all merge together into one they break them up only to have them start to merge again. There are just enough grocery stores struggling to survive while Walmart and their cheap Chinese products dominate. Plenty of stores sell stuff but if you want to sell stuff online you need to connect to Amazon because that’s where everyone goes to get anything online. Amazon will sell your stuff on their site. Just pay their commission. You can sell your phone apps on Apple too, just pay the commission.
When big business can manipulate our leaders into favorable policies to help those super rich guys get richer and pay less taxes while our deficit skyrockets and regular Americans struggle, it makes me think we could do better. I know we are a capitalist country and that’s great and all. Those at the top of the food chain have always gotten a bigger slice of the pie throughout history. Don’t give money away that you could keep for yourself. The billionaires are racing to become the first trillionaire in the world while plenty of people around the world are starving. There has to be a better way. There is more than enough to go around. The super rich have enough money. Do they really need more tax breaks? Big business has enough money to blow on lobbyists and donations to ensure favorable treatment. They can buy Supreme Court justices. Hitler hired US congressman to help spread misinformation in the US to keep us out of the war. Putin has obviously done the same.
Money needs to be taken out of politics while we the people still have a shred of control. That’s a tough sell to the people profiting off said money.
