Carter has earned his stay. I'd offer BE money, even up to half the MLE (we have his rights, don't need to actually use the MLE).
. Minimum deal please.
He has shown himself to be worth more than 1.5M.
Sure, but how much more? He's a 6'1" PG with no real PG skills. He can defend some & shoot it quite well from deep. How much is that worth?
I’ll say 3.5 million

He is a 6'1" SG with great shooting from distance and above average defense, even with his lack of size. I am not saying he is worth 7M a year, but twice the minimum I think would be his floor.

He is a very solid 3-point shooter, a plus defender, decent at ballhandling / bringing the ball up (though not a full-time PG), a hard worker, likes playing here, good locker room guy. That's worth a few mil for sure, def more than the minimum. 3 mil a year sounds about right.

He‘s also very good at one on one on broken plays.

Okay fine- 2-3M per year is fine. You start creeping past that and it’s a waste of money IMO.

This. If you expect to only give him the min, expect him to go to another team.

This is the golden era of the 3D player (look at how much freaking Melton has gotten). I bet a number of teams would be glad to have him. I believe some people uderrate Carter the same way they underrated PJ Tucker. It's fine if you see what a player can't do, but it's fair to also aknowledge what he does well.

Yep, even though he's only 6'1", he's a SG, not a PG. He can defend PG though.

I think on another team he'd have less value being undersized. But he's a great fit alongside Booker, when Booker wants to initiate the offense. He's a bulldog on defense, and he proved to be a very efficient 3-pt shooter.

Carter is an old soul and will have a nice career. The party has just started for him on a team like ours. He knocked down 42% of his 3s on 2.5 per game. That’s going to increase in a more predictable role next year. That one game the bubble he nailed 6 3s was so clutch. He earned his contract and a chance to continue his role and get more minutes.

So where we at rotation wise...I’m going to assume we bring back Saric. Here’s how I see the rotation to start the season:

Paul - 30
Booker - 36
Bridges - 30
Crowder - 28
Ayton - 32

So that leaves 30 minutes in the backcourt, 38 minutes on the wing, and 16 minutes at C.

For now let’s give Saric the backup C minutes and probably 10 minutes at the 4, so 26

Cam takes the other 28 minutes on the wing. 10 at the 4, 18 at the 3.

As for the backcourt. I’ll split it 15 each between Carter and Payne at the moment, but we’ll see if we add another guy.

Booker - 36
Ayton - 32
Paul - 30
Bridges - 30
Crowder - 28
Johnson - 28
Saric - 26
Payne - 15
Cárter - 15

I imagine we’ll see Smith get regular minutes at some point and potentially take all the backup 5 minutes. That cuts into Saric minutes, which probably in turn cuts into Crowder/Johnson.

Here's about where I'm at with minutes...should be a solid 8-9 rotation and I think Smith is a part of the rotation early because of his defense and athleticism. Backup PG will probably be some committee of Book, Payne and Carter. Keeping Paul fresh will be key.

Paul - 30
Book - 34
Mikal - 30
Cam - 28
Crowder - 25
Saric - 20
Ayton - 30
Smith - 18

Payne - 14
Nader - 6
Carter - 6

Paul 30, Booker 35, Bridges 28, Crowder 28, Ayton 30.

Payne 12, Carter 12, Cam 28, Smith 17.

20 minutes still available to Saric/Baynes/???

Nader will have to show a lot to make the rotation.

I’d guess so, Monty will decide, But Crowder started every game in the playoffs for a finals team. Cam has started 8 games total.

I think it would lead to better overall rotational balance. I would end the game with cam and Bridges at 3/4 generally

I think the great thing is we have options to end the game. We also can go defense-offense a bit.

Dang...you all are lowering Ayton’s minutes from last season? I was hoping he would get 36 or so like Book.
