I think the real thing that is going unnoticed is the inability to do sign-and-trade deals. That's a big tool for teams over the cap looking to add players. The Suns, Bucks, Celtics and Timberwolves are limited by that and the inability to use trade exceptions. Trade exceptions are most valuable now for teams willing to take on salary from teams looking to escape tax hell.
It is a hindrance, but it existed before the 2nd apron…teams in the luxury tax already weren’t allowed to acquire players via sign and trade…the 2nd apron made it even more restrictive as you can’t send out a player via sign and trade and receive salary back either.

I've read that Adams was actually going to declare hardship after his sophomore year at Oklahoma but when it was clear that the Suns (who chose John Shumate with the 5th pick) wouldn't be drafting him he chose not to enter the draft. Then in 1975 when it was apparent they would be able to select him he declared for the draft and was picked 4th overall after David Thompson, David Meyers and Marvin Webster.

PTI did a segment on this yesterday and made some good points - the NBA wants parity and wants to be like the NFL but doesn't it hurt teams like Denver who draft and develop players like Murray and Jokic, build around them properly and then lose key free agents like Brown and KCP bc of that apron?
Well they lost Brown because he opted out after one year with them, so they didn't have Bird rights to resign him. That has nothing to do with the second apron.

I really think KCP is overrated. But just looking at it from their point of view: KCP is suppose to be a 2-way guy that you put on the dominant scoring perimeter players to slow them down. They went up against Minny, and he didn't help in slowing down Anthony Edwards, and more importantly, they lost. I don't think they were highly motivated to give him a raise. Does increasing your payroll just to run it back with the same group make sense?

Was this posted? Ishbia seems aware of what he's doing here
His comments on the point guard position (and relying on Jordan Goodwin last year) makes it sound like a clown show.

And when you have Kevin Durant and Devin Booker, but your point of emphasis with your head coach is leadership, that tells you a lot about Durant and Book.

I think Book has it in him and would be leading a group built around him with Mikal and CamJ, Grayson Royce, Nurk and new guys like Oso, Dunn and Jalen Bridges even if we were in a bit of a rebuild. I don't think he has that ability to lead with Beal and KD on the roster.

Ya it would be nice if Booker or KD were leaders, but they are definitely the lead by example type…CP3 and Monty were always here to handle that for Book…and KD has never really taken up a leadership role.

KD Book and Vogel all last year were a bunch of wimps, nobody stepped up, Paul was severely missed. Only would've been worse had they kept Ayton too. If Bud got ran outta Milwaukee because he was too hard on Giannis maybe he is the right guy.

I don't think leadership is a binary yes-or-no quality or that there's just one way to provide it. Neither Book nor KD are vocal leaders like CP3 or Michael Jordan or whomever. But Book in particular has provided leadership on the Suns for years in a more calm and quiet way. KD is more of a hired gun who doesn't verbally lead very much, but he works his ass off and plays hard defense and sets a good example for other players on the team. Neither guy provides a kind of vocal leadership so there's still a void to be filled by the coach. But I think that's okay; Coach Bud can fill that role. Overall I think the team will be fine leadership-wise next season.

Yep, nothing wrong with bringing in a coach that is a leader of men. In fact, it's great. That's what we had with Monty until he went petty on his players. I don't know why INF wants to make it a negative or a slam on our players. So what if we don't have vocal leaders? Not every team does. It's more important that the coach provide that anyway.

I get the frustration from INF and others. Having had teams with strong leaders like CP3 and Nash, it's frustrating to see a roster where the players can't demonstrate that same type of leadership. But I don't care if it comes from the players so long as somebody provides it. I think a team with less vocal leaders as players can still win a title.

What is smallball? I play basketball. I'm not a regular big man. I can switch from the center to the guards. The game is evolving. I'd be dominAyton if the WNBA would let me in. - Ayton

So Payne called the cops? Then when they called back he said there was no problem. The police showed up and both parties said there was no issue, then Payne got arrested for giving a fake name at first, even though he did eventually give his name? Stupid on Payne’s part, but not sure why they needed to arrest him for that
