Keep in mind, we do still have the room mid level exception. Can sign someone up to 4.4 million
Don't you only have the MLE if you start the offseason over the cap?
The Room exception is not the same as the MLE. You have to waive all exceptions to use your cap space (they function like holds.) The Room exception is for teams with cap room. You can use it after you use your cap space.

Rolling my eyes at Scott Bordow selling the mentor value of Ariza for Bridges. As if the $23 million in "mentoring" that they're wasting on the Dudley/Chandler combo wasn't enough.

I would have been upset if we signed him to a 3 year deal, but a 1 year deal is harmless.
It's not harmless; is this the best thing we can come up with? The best way to use $15 million in cap space is a 3&D wing who shot 28% from 3 in the playoffs and is 33 years? After just investing 2 1st rounders into a 3&D player? And with 3 of our top 4 players being wing players?
The 1 year deal shows the front office made a decision to make their big splash next summer. Is there a player out there we could have signed for a similar deal that fits better? Most of us didn't want to use our cap space this summer anyways. I don't love the deal, Ariza is just ok, but I don't see how it hurts us.

It essentially means we are rolling over cap space and committing to winning this year without over-relying on rookies (we have Bridges for 9 years if we want, we can relax about this one).

Also, why the are you focusing on his shooting percentage for ONE series against the best defensive team in the league? He shot 37% from 3 during the regular season. Plus... he was essential in pushing GS to 7 games. He is smart and plays within the defensive scheme. He is tough and competitive. He is a proven winner. AND we can trade him to a contender to free up time for our younger players towards the end of the season if we want.

Ariza doesn't fit at all, so that question is somewhat of a non-starter.

McDonough said stretch PF and PG during the press conference. If we just used all our cap space it makes sense that we're just going to run a ton of 4-out.

What I’ve wanted out of this offseason: Ariza + Pat Beverly on one year deals.

I would be ok with FVV if the money is right on a multi year deal.

So far, we got our veteran stretch 4. Let’s get the vet PG.

Knight/Bev/Okobo
Booker/Bridges
Jackson/Warren/Bridges
Ariza/Bender/Bridges
Ayton/Chandler/Bender

There's a big difference between mentoring from the bench and mentoring on the court.

It makes sense to field a squad of strong, switchy perimeter defenders around Ayton who is going to struggle as a defensive anchor for his first few seasons.

I'm not. Shabazz mentioned his play against the Warriors. The post you quoted was about his play during the entire playoffs. But even if you want to ignore all of that, I don't see his value being worth all of our cap space, even if it is just for one year.

Who would you have preferred to spend the money on? I would have been very happy with FVV, but this is a strong second place.

First, I don't think we needed to use all the cap space on signing one guy. I would have preferred to use it on a few low cost guys, like an Anthony Tolliver. I would have looked to use the space to facilitate a trade or two, and then also keep some cap room for an in-season deal.

I would have been fine with FVV, but I didn't think his signing was a must. I prefer to go after Dinwiddie.

LOVE the 1-yead deal.
What are they doing on Jefferson Street? I don't get this signing at all. We have enough wings, why bring another in and steal minutes from our youth? Especially considering we gave up our treasured Heat pick for said youth.

Win now! We're going all-in on a 40-win season. Plus the mentoring. THE MENTORING!!!

The Ariza deal is a 1-year deal. The trade for Bridges is about the next 4+ years.

A 1-year deal is not going all in!!!! And, a 40-win season is exactly what we should want!!! What the hell is going on here tonight?
