LOL, what? So Tom Emmer won the GOP's nomination to be Speaker today, but then almost immediately gave up the nomination? What is going on over there?

Once the process actually got going, I'm sure it's extremely frustrating and overwhelming to hear all the concessions he'd have to give up getting the gavel. I just picture it like the devil having you sell your soul...

The next GOP nominee to be Speaker appears to be Louisiana Rep. Mike Johnson. I hadn't heard of him, but it sounds like he supported the 2020 election overthrow efforts, so that makes me not like him.

How that's not an automatic disqualification is beyond me.

Well, let’s be honest. There are very few GOP members to choose from that think Biden won. I take that back. They know Biden won. They just can’t say it out loud.

But it's another thing to actively attempt to overturn it.

So why did the holdouts that wouldn’t vote for Jordan, vote for Johnson?

Not being involved in sex crimes might be the difference.

I think they were getting frustrated and tired and picked the somewhat rookie unknown guy that had the least amount of baggage and experience just to get it over with and move on.

Good thread about the dysfunction in the House GOP right now. BTW we're one week from the expiration of the 45-day temporary continuing resolution to fund the government. So there'll be a shutdown if they don't pass some sort of budget, or another continuing resolution. Madness.

It sounds like the House has passed a temporary funding bill that would prevent a looming government shutdown. That's good. I don't know the details of the bill yet; hopefully no painful concessions were made.

Good article from David Rothkopf about the GOP's descent into authoritarianism.

Remember this BS when a crazy Trump supporter attacked Nancy Pelosi's husband? He just got convicted of assault and attempted kidnapping. Will Fox News, Elon Musk, etc. acknowledge this and recant all their BS about this being fake, being about some gay tryst, and various other crazy deflections?
(not likely)
