The mismatch podcast also talked about Guerschon Yabusele (sp?), a bulky 6’8 French forward that I believe the Celtics either drafted or had on their roster for a couple of seasons. Apparently he’s been shooting 40+% from distance the last couple of years in Europe. He sounds kind of perfect for our team. Anybody knows his game beyond the stats? Someone to target?

Here are 47 minutes of Yabusele highlights … in case anybody needs a distraction.

What I assume will be the top 8 shooters for us next year and what they shot from 3:
Grayson Allen - 46.1%
Bradley Beal - 43.0%
Bol Bol - 42.3. %
Tyus Jones - 41.4%
Kevin Durant - 41.3%
Monte Morris - 38.6%
Royce O’Neale - 37.6%
Devin Booker - 36.4%
Totals - 40.6%
I know I’ve heard people say we need more shooters, but what we really need is our current shooters to simply shoot.

Booker looks like a bum of a shooter in this context.

He does take twice as many pull-up 3s as catch and shoot…though he still only shot 37% on catch and shoot.

nah, we still need shooting. 6 of those guys are guards and one is Bol Bol. We need to be able to play 4-5 shooters together and we can't do that without sacrificing defense. I'm not going to be concerned about that until after the trade deadline, though.

To me that means we need defense, not shooting…or more accurately we need defense that isn’t a zero at shooting. Right now I see these 8 as the non bigs that will play.

But I agree with OG’s point. These guys are all on the small side and we tend to get bludgeoned by size when it counts.

Ya we are definitely small…I’d like to get bigger on the wing, but I’d just be careful on what we give up to accomplish that…Being small doesn’t have to be a death sentence, but it will be if we don’t let it fly from 3 and run at all times. OKC was a very small team.

There’s no getting around the size with this roster unless Dunn somehow cracks the rotation and plays big or Bol makes some leap. Ultimately we just better get used to Book and KD at the 3 and 4 with Royce spending minutes as the backup 4. How many teams do we need to worry about getting beat up by another team’s PF?
This league’s bruisers have morphed into wings and POA defenders. I’d argue that Minnesota beat us up with their lengthy wings and exploited our lack of a tablesetter. Hopefully Tyus has helped solve that.

Thought exercise: Do we think the new version of the Suns could beat the Wolves who swept us in last year's playoffs? Could this team beat the Mavs team that went to this year's Finals? Could this team beat the champion Celtics? Are we worse against any of these opponents than last year's team?

I thought they matched up well with the Mavs, and could have beaten them last year. This certainly seems like a much better version, as they addressed every weakness that the Wolves exposed and they struggled with the entire season, with the exception of a little more size at the PF, so they could move KD to the 3.

I think we could beat the Wolves…but doesn’t mean we would. We still do have the same problem at the 5. They didn’t guard Nurk and we couldn’t make them pay for it…it’s a problem just about anyone could expose…Does Plumlee help there? Maybe, but we have to find a way to not let Minny play as aggressive on out ball handlers and ignore our roller. Putting the scorers in off ball actions could help…but we still have the problem of no one guarding Nurk.
