Jimmy Butler trade rumors
Re: Jimmy Butler trade rumors
There’s also no way he opts out of the last year of his contract. It honestly doesn’t seem like there is much of a market for 35-year-old Butler making roughly $50 million a year. Memphis appears to be the only team outside of Phoenix interested in trading for him, but Butler has expressed no desire to go there. I suppose Riley could just decide to send him there out of spite, but who knows if Memphis will continue to pursue him after Butler basically told them not to bother.

I think you’re overestimating Miami’s negotiating position. Miami also isn’t taking Beal. If they are getting players like Middleton and Portis…or Julius Randle, they don’t need multiple picks. They will ultimately do it for 1 pick…and if they don’t, you just walk away. We’re going to have to give whatever team takes Beal a 1st…can’t afford to be giving Miami two picks. They don’t get to get everything they want.Mori Chu wrote: ↑Sat Jan 25, 2025 5:33 pmI think folks may be overestimating our negotiating position. We have the following assets on offer:
- Brad Beal, a player making $50m/year for 3 years, with a no-trade clause, who is at best your team's 3rd or 4th best player, who keeps getting hurt and injured
- three 1st round draft picks, all of which are "worst of 3" type of heavily repeatedly swapped picks from groups of other good teams, almost certain to be in the 24-30 range in the draft
Do you really think any team is salivating over these assets? You think you can get away with giving the Heat just one of the above puu-puu picks? When they just saw that the market value of these picks is 1/3 of an actually good 1st round pick?
If the deal does go through, it's because Miami completely gives up on getting any kind of value for Butler. Riley is pissed at Butler, but he's also stubborn, and I don't think he will be eager to give him away for such a mediocre haul as proposed in most of the trades I've seen.

Trade discussions on sports boards.
Fans of A: This package of assets is worth 100 to us but only 50 to the team that has it. We should be able to get it for 55. Definitely hold at 60, they’d be nuts to refuse. Their bargaining position isn’t that strong.
Fans of B: We can get 90.

I think they are more desperate than us. I’m holding at 60 and letting them deal with Jimmy the rest of the year if they don’t move him…I don’t think they want that at all.

65 and you have a deal.

Synchronicity and all that jazz, man.

Yeah, heat lying about being okay keeping Jimmy. Dude is derailing their season right now. If we walk away they’ll end up trading him for peanuts, then the all proposed trades they turned down will leak and they’ll look like asses.
I don’t think we wait til the deadline and drag this out. If this ain’t don’t by this week or at least look close to beinb done, I think everyone bails and move on.

Re: Jimmy Butler trade rumors
If I was Riley I'd be pretty ok with not trading Butler now if I can't get a package I like. Might be a distraction the rest of the season, but that's a lost season to MIA anyway. And really, I can always just tell him to stay away from the team. A Jimmy Butler-related PR hit does not worry me at all. And when the summer comes, Butler will either use his player option and go away, saving me $50M and his cancerous presence, or need MIA again to get a trade/sign and trade. If everything else fails, I have a $50M expiring trading chip.Wally_West wrote: ↑Sun Jan 26, 2025 12:26 amYeah, heat lying about being okay keeping Jimmy. Dude is derailing their season right now. I don’t know. I feel like we’re in a fairly similar predicament with Nurk who makes about a third of what Butler makes and I want his ass gone immediately. I’m pretty sure Miami feels the same way. It was also reported Miami wants to make the playoffs to convey their pick to OKC, otherwise it becomes unprotected next season.

Re: Jimmy Butler trade rumors
Exactly. And say we can't get anything we liked in a Nurkic trade (granted, adding value on our side). Are you scared to keep him? I know I wouldn't be at all. Worst case scenario, player removed from the team and see you next year when I try again to make a trade once Nurkic becomes expiring crap. No takers? Doubtful, nobody would trade for the player, just the cap relief and attached asset; but so be it: player cut.SunsShine wrote: ↑Sun Jan 26, 2025 12:53 amI don’t know. Yep they need the pick to convey because it becomes unprotected next year, but it also screws up other picks they owe. There is real incentive for Miami to be good and make the playoffs. They don’t want to deal with Jimmy all year at all, they’ll move him.SunsShine wrote: ↑Sun Jan 26, 2025 12:53 amI don’t know. He does seem to have changed the game in Miami.

Re: Jimmy Butler trade rumors
I saw somewhere that the Bulls want 3 1sts to take Beal for LaVine. That seems like a problem. Milwaukee would have to give one and we’d give 2…need to get the Bulls down to 2 1sts to have a chance.
Here’s another thought…if Miami doesn’t play ball and wants too much, is there a world you’d take Randle? So cut Miami out and send Beal to Chicago, Lavine to Bucks, Middleton to Minny, Randle and Portis to us. Would have to rope a team like Detroit in still to take Connaughton.

No Randle, I'd rather get nothing at all in return

Re: Jimmy Butler trade rumors
Ya I’m pretty iffy on Randle too…he doesn’t solve our biggest issues…but he is cheaper and signed for less years than Beal…for me it would be on what else we have to give up. I’d do Beal and 1 1st for Randle and Portis, but if we have to send 2, I’d say no.
Randle and Portis would be movable in the summer if need be. Beal wouldn’t.

Re: Jimmy Butler trade rumors
I think this some silly stuff. Why would they do it? Probably because they will get multiple 1st for LaVine. Dudes been trying to trade LaVine for multiple season with no takers, teams were telling the bulls THEY HAD TO ATTACH ASSETS. So if you cant get rid of the money might as well do a lateral move to get extra assets. Bucks are desperate to move Middleton cuz hes fucking washed, heat, whether they admit or not, really want to move Jimmy and we are desperate to move Beal for Jimmy. This is just a case of everyone helping each other out. The why doesn’t seem that complicated to me. We are all desperate teams realizing we all can help each other out, well Heat seemed to have a stick up their ass but everyone else seems down haha.
To me, this is the week something gets done. Teams want to time to do other moves before the deadline. Especially us. If we can’t wrapped this Jimmy stuff up before the end of the week, I think we move on. Can’t wait all the way up to the deadline hoping we can do it, only for us not being able to do it and not improving the team in a meaningful way.
Ultimately Jimmy is getting moved. Maybe it won’t be us (I think it will be) but he’s getting moved. Heat can lie all they want about willing to keep him but they don’t want this drama for rest of the season and they don’t want another season of it too if he opts in for another year. Clearly this shit is fuckin up the locker room and pissing off the coaching staff. His value will only get worst. Once he opts in, cuz he isnt turning down 50 million + of money, no one is going to give anything close to 1st for a rental. After the Jimmy drama, getting the best Jimmy package is probably now, they will only get worst offers from here. Memphis seems like the spoiler for us for him. Can offer a decent deal and more than fine if Jimmy bounces, if the rumors are true.
Re: Jimmy Butler trade rumors
I like Randle but he's tough to build around and have on the floor with other scorers. Not sure there are enough shots for him, KD and Book. And he can check out easily if he's not a focal point. We're really just exchanging one issue for another, tho I get we'd be out from under Beal's contract.

Minny made their bed with the Randle deal, let them sleep in it.
