Around the League: The Offseason
Re: Around the League: The Offseason
James will be 34 when he starts his next contract. I wonder how good he will be, or how much influence he will have in the league. I mean, this off season he is still one of the best in the game, but age is going to catch up with him sometime. I wonder if he aims for a 5 year max, or if he keeps on with the short contracts so he can hop teams if he isn't winning.

The Spurs know how to manage minutes for old dudes, LeBron should go there.
Love, Hurts.

I'm not sure how that changes the point I was making.carey wrote:Is there a team Durant wouldn't fit? He has the game to fit anywhere because he's not a ball stopper and he plays decent defense.INFORMER wrote:I don't think Kyrie Irving makes this franchise a contender, or even gets them closer to being one. With all this superteam stuff, people in the NBA and those who follow it have gotten lazy and oversimplified winning. Now people just say "go get a superstar." "Do whatever it takes to get a superstar!"
That's not how the Warriors won it all. That team is a calculated collection of the right players with complementary skills. When they added Durant, it wasn't just adding any superstar, it was adding a superstar that fit their team, fit the talent.

If nothing else, it takes away some of the genius from GSW's FO, as Durant was not a case of a carefully calculated risk, in the sense that due to KD's inmense talents, GSW didn't build their roster to make it the perfect fit for a flawed star that finally makes everything click. Everything was clicking already and conversely, anywhere Durant goes, he fits flawlessly, from the most depleted team to the most stacked.
Besides, one could even question how much calculation went in with the Warriors from a salary cap standpoint. First, the sudden spike due to the TV contract is what allowed them to have the room. And second, said room comes in the first place due to Curry's ankles acting up during his first years in the league, which kept him from a max contract but have not bothered him afterwards.

It's more and more clear that LUCK has as much to do with sports as anything. How else can you explain the Cavs winning the lottery 4 out of the last 6 years they were in it? Yet the Suns haven't won the 1st pick in 50 yrs...Ring_Wanted wrote:If nothing else, it takes away some of the genius from GSW's FO, as Durant was not a case of a carefully calculated risk, in the sense that due to KD's inmense talents, GSW didn't build their roster to make it the perfect fit for a flawed star that finally makes everything click. Building a winning team takes a combination of skill, luck, coaching, unselfishness, and more. The Warriors have made many good decisions along the way, but they were also helped by the CBA, by the willingness of their stars to take less money, by OKC imploding around Westbrook's ballhogging, and a number of other factors.Ring_Wanted wrote:If nothing else, it takes away some of the genius from GSW's FO, as Durant was not a case of a carefully calculated risk, in the sense that due to KD's inmense talents, GSW didn't build their roster to make it the perfect fit for a flawed star that finally makes everything click. My primary point wasn't to laud the Warriors as geniuses. I was just using them as an example that put together a team looking at how each piece fit with the other.Ring_Wanted wrote:If nothing else, it takes away some of the genius from GSW's FO
And the fact Durant would fit most teams doesn't change the fact that he fits the Warriors.

The Pelicans signed Ian Clark to a 1-year deal for $1.6M. That's a good deal for NOLA. The money is drying up. Len should do something soon.
My guy Melo Trimble caught on with the Timberwolves. Happy for him.

Wow, that is a steal for Ian Clark. They need players like him, too. Might be a good fit.carey wrote:The Pelicans signed Ian Clark to a 1-year deal for $1.6M. That's a good deal for NOLA. The money is drying up. Len should do something soon.
