Dudley, Chandler, and Knight were all signed to start and did start when they first arrived. Monroe was a salary filler.

I think Knight is pretty locked in unless we make a move, which is possible. I guess there is a chance Booker starts at PG and we start Jackson and Warren, but with Igor already saying Booker wouldn't be playing PG, I'd be pretty surprised.
Did I totally miss him saying there won't be Point Booker this year?Split T wrote: ↑Wed Jul 25, 2018 12:00 pmI think Knight is pretty locked in unless we make a move, which is possible. Warren or Jackson seems like the big question right now.
You did, he did.Indy wrote: ↑Wed Jul 25, 2018 12:16 pmDid I totally miss him saying there won't be Point Booker this year?Split T wrote: ↑Wed Jul 25, 2018 12:00 pmI think Knight is pretty locked in unless we make a move, which is possible. Also said no PF for AytonWhen asked by Scott Bordow the other day after SL practice, Igor clearly said no. He does not see Booker bringing the ball up the floor a lot as the primary ball handler. He said Booker is their best scorer and shot creator and would be used as a secondary ball handler via hand-off and screen actions (see Slovenia NT at EuroCup for example), but would not be expected to spend a lot of time as the main ball handler on the floor.
Thanks. I have been traveling internationally the last couple of weeks and way behind on a lot of threads here.The Bobster wrote: ↑Wed Jul 25, 2018 12:20 pmYou did, he did.Indy wrote: ↑Wed Jul 25, 2018 12:16 pmDid I totally miss him saying there won't be Point Booker this year?Split T wrote: ↑Wed Jul 25, 2018 12:00 pmI think Knight is pretty locked in unless we make a move, which is possible. Despite any rhetoric about how every player has to earn his starting spot, I think it's almost guaranteed that our starting lineup will be:
I think I read he will be better than Porzingis within the next 18 months.Marty [Mori Chu] wrote: ↑Wed Jul 25, 2018 1:54 pmDespite any rhetoric about how every player has to earn his starting spot, I think it's almost guaranteed that our starting lineup will be:

The most uncertain of those starting spots is Brandon Knight, and I suspect he won't be our starting PG by 1-2 months into the season. But I feel especially confident that there's no way they will bench Josh Jackson, who is seen as one of their brightest young stars.
I do think, especially after this summer league, that the current version of Josh Jackson is IMO not destined to be a great NBA starting small forward. If he finds ways to greatly improve the weak areas of his offense, maybe he can get there. But I think he is a big weakness in our lineup. I bet this will manifest itself where we bring in a Warren or Bridges off the bench and suddenly things get much better. Who knows if that would lead to a lineup change later in the season or whether we'll be stubborn and try to make it work.
I think you're putting too much weight into his summer league performance. Also, you're not giving him time to improve? The current version of Jackson is surely not what he ends up as.Marty [Mori Chu] wrote: ↑Wed Jul 25, 2018 1:54 pmI do think, especially after this summer league, that the current version of Josh Jackson is IMO not destined to be a great NBA starting small forward. Well Porzingis isn't even playing right now, so....Indy wrote: ↑Wed Jul 25, 2018 1:58 pmI think I read he will be better than Porzingis within the next 18 months.Marty [Mori Chu] wrote: ↑Wed Jul 25, 2018 1:54 pmDespite any rhetoric about how every player has to earn his starting spot, I think it's almost guaranteed that our starting lineup will be:

Why are you saying that the Suns give long term deals and then mentioning Monroe as your first example when you know damn well that the Suns aren’t the ones who gave Monroe his contract? It was the Bucks. He was acquired in a trade to match salaries.Indy wrote: ↑Wed Jul 25, 2018 10:02 amYeah, usually we give guys bigger long-term deals to not start.UglyTruth wrote: ↑Wed Jul 25, 2018 8:28 amI don’t know our history in regards to giving someone a 1 yr $15M deal to not start, no.Indy wrote: ↑Wed Jul 25, 2018 6:52 amGood point. It isn't like we have a history of paying people 10-15M/year to not play, much less start...
I don't think there is a specific starting lineup already decided. I think that is what training camp will determine, once Igor gets to see who runs what he wants really well. Sure, Ariza will probably start, but you never know.
If the Suns don’t start him, (no matter what the circumstance is), you can bet that Ariza becomes the 9th disgruntled player under McD’s tenure and demands out. He didn’t leave a top 3 team in the league from last season to come off the bench for the worst team in the league.
Our top 4 highest paid players last year:
* Greg Monroe (16M)
* Brandon Knight (14M)
* Tyson Chandler (13M)
* Jared Dudley (10M)
Those 4 guys combined for over 50% of our total salaries, and less than 12% of our total minutes played.
Either way, I don't think Igor has a set rotation yet. It would be foolish to have that set already.
