Not sure he's going to find anyone that's gonna offer him 12 million a year. I like his defense/hustle/aggressiveness but his complete inability to shoot makes him unplayable with Warren and Jackson

Marcus Smart walked out of the TD Garden, perhaps for the final time, lamenting squandered opportunities and wondering aloud whether he has played his last game as a Boston Celtic.

Smart, who will be a restricted free agent this summer, was told that Boston might not be able -- or willing -- to afford the $12-14 million a year price tag that he reportedly has been seeking.

"To be honest, I'm worth more than 12-14 million," Smart told ESPN. "Just for the things I do on the court that don't show up on the stat sheet. You don't find guys like that. I always leave everything on the court, every game. Tell me how many other players can say that."
I think most players would say it, but some of them would be lying. I agree that he's a rough fit here with our lack of shooting. Especially if we are actually chasing Gordon as has been rumored. I would love to get more athletic (particularly on the defensive end) but not at the expense of shooting.

Marcus Smart would be worth a lot of money ... if he somehow locked himself in a gym all summer and became a great corner 3-point shooter. You could say that about a lot of current NBA players, including our own TJ Warren and Elfrid Payton.

Anyone following the craziness going on with Philly and BC?

Apparently he's had like five burner accounts that he's been using to defend himself and tear down jahlil Okafor, Noel, Embiid, Fultz, etc. Embiid and Fultz are starting to respond on Twitter.. Kinda crazy

Even given what I have been told about Colangelo (which I will not openly say here for fear of getting Mori in trouble) I find this story a bit shocking. I figured all GMs must have a secret account to keep track of what's going on around the league, but I also figured they never engaged with anyone.

I was just coming here to post about this. My Twitter is blowing up with tons of posts from NBA people about this topic. Wow. I bet lots of folks in the NBA (and most any sport or other area) have secret burner Twitter accounts where they post various sneaky things. But to get caught so blatantly like this, and given the kinds of things he posted, this is really embarrassing for BC. Embiid seems clearly pissed, given the tweets he's been sending back about it. I love that Embiid is just openly commenting on this and making fun of BC about it. He's always entertaining.

I've seen all kinds of crazy rumors already about who might have tipped off The Ringer about this story. I hear that Hinkie himself has been getting deep into AI and machine learning startups lately. It wouldn't surprise me if this came from somebody connected to Hinkie or from Hinkie himself. He seems pretty pissed about how he was pushed out of the team and not always given credit for their current success.

I wonder if it'll be easier to find burner accounts like this in the future, given how it's becoming easier to do large-scale data analysis of social networks like Twitter. You can use various heuristics and models to figure out which Twitter accounts tweet similarly or seem likely to be the same person. Wouldn't surprise me if somebody else gets "outed" for their burner accounts in the near future.

I just read the Ringer story, and I have to give props to the author. He got the anonymous tip in February and clearly spent A LOT of time researching this. Obviously publishing this in the off-days before the finals is well planned. After reading it I have a hard time imagining a scenario where the twitter accounts are not connected, and Colangelo confirmed one of them is his.

I also read some of the tweets and my guess is he just needed to vent a bit :) must be annoying to be blamed for so many things but not being able to talk about it openly. I just can't understand how you have 4 burner accounts but are stupid enough to follow the same things with all of them (like, why not specialize the accounts?).

Edit: I did come up with a scenario in which BC is innocent. A group deep in the 76ers organization spent all this time setting BC up. The media relations guy has to be a part of it, but he alone probably wouldn't know the details on the players. Are there any Hinkie disciples left in that front office? :)

Yeah, but it will be also easy to create accounts and mimic someone, just to ruin their reputation, not just with fake accounts like we already see, but with fake burner accounts.

Yep. There are going to be some fascinating legal battles in the next decade.
