The fact that Herb jumps into Ayton shows me he knew what he was doing.

I don’t know that herb meant to hit him, but that’s still 100% a flagrant

Then Ayton somehow gets called for a foul when Jonas swung his elbow back into his face.

CP3 delivered when Suns needed it most.

My main takeaway

C Payne still struggling to get in rhythm
Plays terrible in the 3rd which leads to Monty benching him in the 4th
As a result Book started the 4th after playing the full 3rd quarter
CP3 had to take over and although it's cool to see ole boy still turn it on and dominate, ideally I rather him not having to play the whole 4th quarter and go off just for us to keep the Pelicans at bay.

Stating the obvious but C Payne can't be such a letdown

Great win! CP3 scorched them in the 4th. I'm worried about Ayton; they should probably put him through a concussion protocol and make sure he's okay.

I'm in favor of Aaron Holiday over Cam Payne if he continues to stink it up.

I think Payne will be fine. It’s just the 1st game. That’s how it is with him. When he’s cold? He’s fucking cold. When he’s hot? Boy is he hot.

Worried about rebounding going forward. Been a problem all year.

My general take on this series is that the Pelicans will compete hard against us every game but won't actually WIN many of those games. They'll be right in it at the end of each game, but we'll work some clutch-time magic to beat them by 2-3 points every time or whatever. So it'll be a 4 or 5-game series but we'll say, "it was closer than it seemed!" etc.

GAME DAY! LET'S ROCK!
Nah, we're gonna destroy them every single game and sweep the series.
1 down, 3 to go. :P

Monty needs to be more careful with players. There was no reason to keep Ayton in after the hit to the head (the game was basically put away anyway), and then he gets a second hit. That can be very dangerous.

I hope he can recover fully soon if he does have a concussion.

Aren't you glad we have two rotation quality backup C's on the roster? Maybe even 3 if Dario comes back?

Run a big, bruising lineup of JaVale at 5 and Dario at 4 in places

I'm thinking that trade for Chris Paul was a pretty good one.

Dominant first half. Defense was on point. Offense still has rust.

CP is amazing.

I kinda think Herb knew what he was doing but didn't mean to hit him in the head. It should have been flagrant.

It's also a disgrace how long Val gets to stand in the paint. Of course he had 25 boards.

I got tired of seeing them get three attempts at the basket every time the floor. Rebounding needs improvement big time. One guy should be assigned to just blocking out Val and everyone else rebound.
