We are such a fucked up country.

Re: January 6 hearings
Fair, but we have actively fucked with the rest of the world more than anyone in the last 100 years. Not as much as the British have over time, but that is a high bar.
Re: January 6 hearings
Senators in both parties want to prevent the next Jan. 6. They're not looking for the select panel's help.
They're close to a deal on reforming the Electoral Count Act, and they're not interested in waiting for expected recommendations from the Capitol attack investigation.

The Jan. 6 committee shares one major goal with a handful of GOP senators: modernizing the 135-year-old law that governs the transition of presidential power. Except those Republicans aren’t looking to the select panel for help.
Politically speaking, their task is hard enough as it is. Working with a small group of Democrats, the GOP senators are aiming to get a filibuster-proof majority in their chamber backing an update to the 1887 law that Donald Trump’s allies used to pressure then-Vice President Mike Pence to block certification of the 2020 election.

Re: January 6 hearings
That would be huge if they could get electoral count act reform done. Need to close the loopholes.
Re: January 6 hearings
So Hutchinson under sworn testimony said she was told by Cipollone about Trumps spat with the Secret Service. Someone at the Secret Service denied it happened. Cipollone under oath corroborated her story. The panel asked for the texts from the Secret Service of that day. Some government watchdog said those texts were all deleted. Now the panel has subpoenaed the Secret Service for them.
Secret Service set to turn over ‘erased’ Jan. 6 texts

The transfer, if it materializes, follows several days of confusion and finger-pointing surrounding the elusive messages, which a government watchdog told the committee “were erased” by the Secret Service — only to have the agency deny the charge outright.
The accusation led the House select committee to subpoena the Secret Service for the texts late Friday night, just hours after the panel met with Joseph Cuffari, the inspector general at the Department of Homeland Security.
Cuffari, a Trump appointee, had sent the committee a letter earlier in the week saying the agency had expunged text messages from Jan. 5 and Jan. 6, 2021, “as part of a device-replacement program.” The erasure came “after OIG [Office of Inspector General] requested records of electronic communications” from the agency, Cuffari wrote.
“There was a statement made by the spokesperson for the department saying that it wasn’t true, it wasn’t fair and that they, in fact, had pertinent texts,” Rep. Zoe Lofgren (D-Calif.) said in a Sunday appearance on ABC’s “This Week,” referring to the agency’s rebuttal of Cuffari’s account. “And we go, ‘Fine, if you have them, we need them.’ ”

Re: January 6 hearings
Trump found out about Inspector Generals at his first Impeachment trial. They are the internal affairs of government. After the trial he started replacing them all with Trump people. It appears to me one of Trumps Inspector Generals still has his back and is using the same old lying cheating technique Trump taught all “his” people. Like always they were caught.

Re: January 6 hearings
The Secret Service deleted all of its text messages on 1/5 and 1/6 despite being specifically told not to do so. Hmmm.

Re: January 6 hearings
Launch a full investigation, make everyone testify under oath, someone will crack.

Another good analysis thread on USSS mishandling of texts:

Lol, what a phony.
Re: January 6 hearings
The hearings have solidified it in stone for the history books what most of us here already knew. Trump supporters will live and die by whatever Trump tells them and ignore everyone else.

Re: January 6 hearings
Look at this piece of shit. He tells them to take out a line about "the election is over" from his recorded message the next day.
