How Would You Rebuild the Suns?
Re: How Would You Rebuild the Suns?
Ok, here’s my new dream scenario(It does require Indiana to still value Ayton at a high level)
1. Waive and stretch CP3
2. Trade Ayton and Shamet to Indiana for Myles Turner and Buddy Hield.
3. Use the MLE on Bruce Brown
4. BAE on Seth Curry
5. Bring back Jock and Okogie
Brown/Booker/Hield/KD/Turner
Payne/Curry/Okogie/Ish/Jock
A little small…rebounding would be a concern. Finding another 4/5 at the minimum would be very helpful.

I think he can make a lot more than that. I expect him to opt out.Drewsprocket wrote: ↑Thu May 18, 2023 12:21 pmHe’s locked in the make 6.8 next year. If we open up the full MLE we can easily outbid them and offer a starting spot. He’s also close with KD. He’s one of my favorite targets. Probably my favorite tbh.Drewsprocket wrote: ↑Thu May 18, 2023 11:25 amI really like what he flashed for us in the regular season when given minutes. I’m ok that he couldn’t put it together in the playoffs. I think to some extent Craig going off in round 1 sapped his momentum.
Okogie I’d bring back on a minimum deal. This summer he has to know that if he can knock down his shot more consistent and work on taking his guy to the bucket then he could get start minutes.
On that note, I would LOVE it if we could get Bruce Brown as our starting PG. That dude could totally be good enough playmaker and defensive captain. He puts pressure on the rim.
To win a ring, this team needs to be 6 players deep similar to Denver. Of course there’s no way Denver giving him up.
We shall see what happens. I hope Suns flip Ayton for two solid players and CP3 for at least one.
We definitely need our own wing 3 and D guy again, better playmaker, and a 5.

Yeah he will get signed somewhere for 3x that. We have like zero options I think.Split T wrote: ↑Thu May 18, 2023 12:26 pmI think he can make a lot more than that. No, Denver doesn’t have his bird rights. They can only give him a 120% raise.

I think with Brown, Booker, and KD you’d have plenty of playmaking. They can all initiate the offense.

A lot of people have an aversion to Point Book, but I suggest watching the Miami Heat right now to see how it could work. Their starting back court is Gabe Vincent and Jimmy Butler, and pretty much everyone can handle the ball anywhere on the court.

Re: How Would You Rebuild the Suns?
I like this blueprint a lot. It's all generally plausible, too. Indy might take that deal since they wanted Ayton so badly a year ago. I would at least try to find a trade partner for CP3 who would give us back any asset in return. But we'd be quite lucky if we could get the above deals done. I would hope for at least 1-2 mystery veteran ring-chasers to come join us. Maybe a Jeff Green, Mason Plumlee, somebody like that.Split T wrote: ↑Thu May 18, 2023 12:25 pmOk, here’s my new dream scenario(It does require Indiana to still value Ayton at a high level)

Re: How Would You Rebuild the Suns?
Ya I think what we need most is shooting, enter Hield, Curry, and Turner. I would like one more playmaker and a point of attack defender, Bruce Brown tackles both those. Size and rebounding would be a potential issue, but I think we’d make up for it with very high level shot making.

Re: How Would You Rebuild the Suns?
I was looking at the list of free agents this summer and it appears to be a lot of scorers and shooters out there. I think we will end up with some bargain bin scoring veteran signings but I actually think Bruce Brown Jr and Mason Plumlee would be two smart, tough, and unselfish players who would fit well with Book and KD. And would leave room for us trading for that third star. To me this would be ideal.
Re: How Would You Rebuild the Suns?
I don't really want to run Point Book all season. I think that'd wear him out and make it more likely he'd be hurt or gassed come playoff time. But I do like selective use of Point Book in the playoffs.In2ition wrote: ↑Thu May 18, 2023 3:35 pmFair enough.Flagrant Fowl wrote: ↑Thu May 18, 2023 1:29 pmA lot of people have an aversion to Point Book, but I suggest watching the Miami Heat right now to see how it could work. Re: How Would You Rebuild the Suns?
I'd like to clear capspace to make a run at Gabe Vincent as a FA. I have concerns about Heat players being "system" guys but he's a tough shotmaker, can handle enough to share ballhandling duties and has a lot of good postseason experience at this point. He may fly under the radar a bit. Just don't want to get into an overpay situation for that kind of roleplayer but he could be a good addition.

Re: How Would You Rebuild the Suns?
Vincent has impressed me in these playoffs and I'd be happy if the Suns signed him to a reasonable contract. In general, I just want them to acquire smart, high-effort players regardless of the position. No knuckleheads or guys who're mostly just playing for the paycheck.

Re: How Would You Rebuild the Suns?
Speaking of playoff performers, I was wrong about Rui Hachimura. He wouldn't have swung the Suns post-season fortune, but he's clearly much more effective that I thought he'd be. He could be really good if he manages to not be so streaky in the years to come.

And it only would have cost Saric and a couple 2nds.

Re: How Would You Rebuild the Suns?
This is like Flex saying we might be able to get Durant without giving up the twins. Portland might be interested, but there’s no chance they are giving up 3. Maybe he misread and it was their 2nd round pick.

Deandre Ayton for the 3rd pick would be a heist by Ishbones.
