Game Day: Blazers (9-22) @ Suns (17-15), Mon 1/1/24

A little choppy but it was good to see some of the deeper bench guys get run because we'll need them at some point. Book was clearly off but got into a rhythm late in the game. Beal turned it on late, Nurk was solid, Allen and Gordon did what they do. Good to see the starters besides Beal play less minutes. Book played just under 31, Beal played 34 and the rest were around 28. Beal could use the run, so no worried about and he carried the 2nd unit which didn't look terrible.
Bol looked like a competent player, more disciplined on defense and generally knew were to be and how to use his size. I wouldn't expect him to play everynight, but he looked solid in his minutes. I like Metu's athleticism and he seems more comfortable each game. It's nice having bigs who look to attack the basket and go in for dunks.

I still can't believe we got all of Nurkic, Grayson Allen (maybe the 4th best player on the team?), AND Little all for that former center, whatever his name was. That has turned out to be an exceptional trade for us.

Bol outplayed Booker tonight.
What is smallball? I play basketball. I'm not a regular big man. I can switch from the center to the guards. The game is evolving. I'd be dominAyton if the WNBA would let me in. - Ayton

Yeah, Book was shooting and loose with his handle enough that I questioned if he was still a little under the influence during the game. He started hitting a few shots in the 4th, so maybe he was coming out of whatever it was.

Honestly I think KD being out and Book being off, all while the rest of the team stepped up on the second game on a back-to-back; this was a GREAT game for us. Hopefully we'll continue to build upon it and start to become a more cohesive unit.

Nurk's like, "Hey look at us, the Big Four! Right? Guys? The big four, the best four guys on the team? Eh? Yeah?"

Don't be silly. You'd have to replace Beal with Grayson to get the Big Four in that picture.
(I'm kidding, mostly. But there is a combo guard on the team at 50/40/90 right now, and it ain't the highest-paid one...)

Synchronicity and all that jazz, man.
