Still, if Doncic looks like the BPA, you take him. You play him until his trade value is high. Then you make a tough decision. Either make it work or move one of them for guys who fit better.

I think we can forget what it's like to manage a roster. Drafting a guy isn't marriage. You aren't stuck with him until he demands a divorce. You don't settle for a guy you think is easier to keep happy. You get the best players you can, and feel free to trade them at any time to improve your roster.

This is probably highlights bias - but I really like both Porter brothers. Jontay can pass, and that's a great sign of hoops IQ, especially in a big guy. I would be very happy to get him with one of our later picks.

MPJ could be the sleeper. What I saw from him when he played....very intriguing. He's a guy you plug in as a positionless 4 without creating imbalance. You'd still need a rim protector/rebounder, but Booker, Jackson and Porter could be devastating.

Also Quinn Cook who has looked really good stepping in for an injury depleted Warriors team.

I fear backups who look great in certain roles/situations getting big money to become starters on other teams. VanVleet and Rozier are two candidates. I really like Rozier too but not sure I'd spend on him to be a starter.

This is what years of losing has done to us. We expect the worse. :)
My fear is that Ayton just becomes Enes Kanter.

People love KAT and he doesnt really defend, I think Ayton would end up more KAT than Kanter.

Bamba or bust. 8-)

Was not aware. Truth is the Warriors are not very interesting to me after KD. Also dislike how they whine and moan, especially Green. Klay and Kerr are cool, though. Anyway, I'll take a look at Quinn.

And ShelC, I get your point, but we'll need to address PG this offseason as Payton is no solution (I fear the FO is going to give him a relevant contract; the fact that they liked him during his draft -two workouts- really scares me).

Payton has given up on the season. I think he knows he's gone, I'd be very surprised if we brought him back

I hope you are right, but I totally can see the FO giving him a starter contract.

ShelC wrote:Simmons is a freak so I'd be careful comparing Doncic to him. Simmons is 6-10 and a super athletic. He's also a true pass first PG. Ball is also a pass first guy. Putting basically two score/shoot first SGs together could get dicey. And it works with GS because they know it's a special situation with some special players. Would I love to see "positionless" basketball with Doncic, Booker and Jackson? Absolutely. Would it be tricky? Yes. Would we need the right coach? Yes. Would we need the right players up front? Yes. Do I have faith we could make it work? Ehhhhhhhhhhhh.

How about, having Knight back is like having the Lakers’ pick in this draft?

Jontay Porter could be a target with one of the mid picks, if we keep them.

I don't disagree with this, but find it funny that you easily put Porter into a different position, but insisted Doncic can't play pg.

Defense matters. Can Doncic defend PGs? I know, I know we can cross match and Jackson can guard PGs. And "who really plays defense anyway?" But it does matter. And while Simmons plays PG, they still mix in guys like Reddick, McConnell and Bayless to match up with guards.

Porter lists at 6-10 215-220, he'll get stronger and fill out and can project as a PF. He's got a solid, thick build already so I'm not concerned there. The back surgery is the biggest red flag. If that checks out, he should be in the mix.

Doncic is a decent defender, I'm not worried about that. He is a huge upgrade from what Payton or any pg the Suns have had since Nash, including Dragic.

Porter at the 4 is not so good on the defensive end imo, but eventually he may be.
