Around the League: 2018 Offseason
Re: Around the League: 2018 Offseason
I have deep skepticism about Toronto. They traded their best scorer for a player who doesn't want to be there and will probably leave after one season. I worry about their chemistry if Kawhi decides not to try his hardest. He may ease it up a bit to avoid injury as he looks ahead to free agency. And you never know with Lowry; there's always a 50/50 chance he shows up fat every year.
Re: Around the League: 2018 Offseason
If Kawhi plays with an ease it up mentality, doesn't that hurt his free agency the following year? Maybe it doesn't, as he never said he wanted to be traded to Toronto and GMs will dismiss his play this season, but idk.Marty [Mori Chu] wrote: ↑Sat Aug 11, 2018 9:20 amI have deep skepticism about Toronto. Re: Around the League: 2018 Offseason
Has Lowry ever shown up fat? He's been pretty consistent for awhile now.
I guess we'll just have to wait and see, but I think Toronto is a legit contender in the East

Thoughts on this? Bowen didn't say anything we weren't all thinking. Clippers fired him because they want to go after Kawhi NEXT year? Kind of crazy.

FYSA: Most of the computer models are picking us to win 26-28 games next year, which is probably realistic, if just a touch low (I predicted 32, and ya'll busted on me for being too negative. The computer model say that my off the cuff estimate is probably optimistic).
The Vegas over under is 29.5. Other prognosticators have us around 28.

You guys can mark this down, I am going to go out on a delusional limb and say that the Suns push to almost 50 wins this year.

No marking here. That is too ridiculous for my sig.

Right now I think they'll win around 31-32 games. We'll see if they do anything else in free agency.Wormwood wrote: ↑Tue Aug 14, 2018 6:49 amFYSA: Most of the computer models are picking us to win 26-28 games next year, which is probably realistic, if just a touch low (I predicted 32, and ya'll busted on me for being too negative. Everything he said is fair, so I tend to agree with you that he is being fired because he just shouldn't be paid to analyze basketball on TV.Shabazz wrote: ↑Tue Aug 14, 2018 10:45 amI think it’s a convenient excuse. Re: Around the League: 2018 Offseason
I think a 15 game increase is not unrealistic if Booker is healthy. That would put us at 36 wins.
Igor is a big improvement. 5 at least.
Healthy Booker adds a few.
The new guys seem ready to play. Ayton + Bridges + Ariza + Okobo has got to be worth a few wins over Len + Danual House + Daniels + PG fodder.
Improvement from Jackson, Bender, Chriss could add a few more. I hope they improve.

Wrong. I said that was optimistic and I’ll take an 11 win increase.Wormwood wrote:FYSA: Most of the computer models are picking us to win 26-28 games next year, which is probably realistic, if just a touch low (I predicted 32, and ya'll busted on me for being too negative. We will win more than 28. We tanked the fuck out of the 2nd half of the season. We will be around 35 unless Booker misses 20+ games.

Ah, time for the annual phx-suns.net tradition of being offended by the over-under line and proclaiming the over an easy bet.

Re: Around the League: 2018 Offseason
I don't know about the over. My first instinct was to disagree with the Vegas prediction and think that the over was easy money, but the West somehow became even more brutal, and for a team supposedly looking to leave tanking behind, the offseason leaves a lot to be desired.
It is incredible what we currently have at PG, plus the logjam at the wings. Basically everything besides Booker-Ayton (on offense) is a question mark. To me it is totally unacceptable to enter the season like that, especially when you are not going to be in a privileged situation cap wise next year, as half the league is going to be players for FAs.
This reeks of 'year 2 of a rebuilding proyect', not 'enough with the tanking, let's go get wins'; but, of course, I'll gladly be wrong and enjoy a surprise season full of harmony, development and sensible play. Just see too much 'but' and 'why' to buy it.
